so what can we actually do with it today? - I think we could shoot lasers at it to refract out - kind of like a network relay. Might be usable for SETI
development has always been an iterative process. simply doing it again, sheds light onto what may have been overlooked or glossed over the first (n) times
i click on anything i feel like - and my usage is tracked by the governmental organization i work for. the solution is no-script and a firewall that works. come on, we are supposed to be nerds - how is not clicking an option?
and interestingly enough the carbon cost of creating the new car you replaced it with, is more that the carbon output of that car for the rest of its lifespan. makes you wonder... whats the point? oh wait, i remember: capitalism
i once got a parking ticket out there & i was beggin the guy to not tow the car (as it was not even mine) - he wouldnt even take my bribe of 500 rupees ~10(USD) (which i thought was plenty).
Well they towed the car literally around the corner and asked for the 150 rupee fine. Thats uhh...3 USD, i pay 10x that to park legally here in the states.
and ok, before someone berates me for the difference in cost of living out there - the 1$ - 50rupees is about right (a meal for 4 adults can easily cost 2000+ rupees, and comic book 50)
no offense, but yes you did miss something. this is a nice way to get their school's average grades higher. and in turn making it appear that their school is better than it really is

programming on the other hand, agreed, getting much less complex
the Eris uses a-GPS - check how fast you get a fix when the phone is off the network.
it is also waaaaaay faster to triangulate based on cell towers a couple of miles away
vs.
triangulating based satellites orbiting the earth (yes GPS is a trilateration / triangulation based technology [lets not get into semantics]) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_positioning_system#Basic_concept_of_GPS
you should look into what they were able to do in the Haiti disaster relief. they used a simple mass txt message sent to all phones on the island, people who needed help were able to txt back, their positions triangulated. This was done with wide spread success
yes, genocide brings its own set if obstacles to overcome, but your wide stroke of dismissal is a bit unfounded.
the answer your question:
"Who is going to report the genocide events?" -
is simple the same type of people who use camera phones to record the unsavory events in Tibet, or China, or India, or LA (Rodney King), or Albania, or Palestine, or... well i guess i can stop now, hopefully the point been made.

are you asking why people hire PR firms? I think thats kinda implicit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_relations
in their spec sheet they go back and forth from B and b - if their documentation is at this level, well my advice is stay away

most office workers will not be as productive if they're not in close proximity to their team.

Not traveling much, are you? A flight from Los Angeles to Sydney takes 14-15 hours.
and the percentage of flights that are 14-15 hours? i dont need to check to know that this is quite a small percentage of the market.
