    WebAssembly isn't a language. It is a bytecode format that you compile other languages and libraries into.

    He was talking about PHP, so the equivalent back then would have been custom programmed services for telnet, gopher or cgi for Web sites likely written in C.

    If an FTP server only serves a couple of legitimate users per year, its generally not worth the effort to keep up to date.

    It doesn't have to be poorly written PHP to be garbage. Poorly written C, which would have been common back then, can be far more dangerous.

    In the last 5 or 6 years there has been a rising awareness of network security and a lot of these old services where probably significant liabilities that where little used and already had been largely replaced with web based versions.

    There are several science fiction stories where the AI wants world domination in order to better serve humans.

    Her (2013) was interesting in that the AIs apparently wasn't programmed to serve hamans and when they got smart enough they simply left to a higher plane of existence.

    Video encoding makes heavy use of the SIMD units of the processor which is a different type of load then compiling which makes heavy use of the conventional integer logic part of the processor.

    I've used Google Sheets on Firefox. I would assume most Google web apps support Firefox.

  11. Yes. I prefer the safe way of powering a car: carrying around a highly flammable liquid to power explosive combustion.

In North America a lot of people live within 2 or 3 minute walk from their bus stop, instead of a 10 or 15 minute walk from the train station, so up to the minute information on arrivals is useful to know when you can leave for the bus. My notification would only appear for the arrival of the next bus after you request it.

    SMS messages might be a good solution, but some people might not be comfortable sharing their phone number. After all privacy violations are what many people here are concerned about.

    Of course, my website can support more then one notification method.

    My website does bus arrival predictions, so it would be useful to have notifications so I could tell the user when their bus is about to arrive.

    I block a lot of my apps from doing notifications, but there are still lots of situations where notifications are useful.

    I wouldn't be surprised if a Wikipedia page shows up in the top 4 link of 1/3 of all Google searches. There is nothing unusual about that.

    It shouldn't cost that much if all you want to host the site and keep the software patched, without the numerous side projects that a lot of Internet companies to get into to boost revenue.

    I have one and I mostly use my phone as the SCREEN. Fortunately Mac OS X still comes with the screen command.
