I don't think that's very true at all. Lots of workers don't have "desktops". It's not uncommon to see laptops stay docked 24/7, but the department still isn't replacing them with desktops when the have the chance.
I would suspect it is because laptops are multifaceted in application. Likewise, as we see netbooks become faster and more efficient, they will start to replace traditional laptop uses.
You know what's not great, or at least with the most recent rev (last 2 years), is their terrible connection manager. It is a complete bear to get it to follow the right kind of encryption for Wifi. And then it shuts down Zero config.
Zeroconfig is an extremely well executed program. In XP at least (like the rest of the OS, it took a turn for the worse in Vista) you almost NEVER had to futz with a connection. It just worked. It autodetects encryption levels, and prompts you for the right password.
I remember a time, only a few years ago, where even one crash in several hours of use would be seen as unacceptable for software at a major version number release.

At this point in life, HFS is working fine, and the drobo is quietly humming away. I'm glad snow leopard was relatively painless to upgrade too, and not sure this would have been the case if ZFS had been included in 10.6.
I doubt that including support for ZFS would have caused a terrible pain. It isn't like it would implement the ZFS files system in an upgrade.
Are you seriously going to suggest that Open BSD could be a replacement for what Windows users generally ask for? How about after *you* set them up with everything they want. Please tell me how they will handle upgrades.

Commonly people say, "Well that's their own fault for not knowing better" And sure it's easy to say that when you are a person who has the wisdom to know when you don't know - but many people don't. And the bankers knew their clients didn't really get it. They just didn't care.
If I go to the doctor and he says I need an operation, I can do all the reasearch I want. Get second opinions. But at the end of the day the procedure is up to the doctor's discretion and it is his responsibility to make sure that I am well informed.

Dev environment at home. I have a large environment at home for testing. I left out the 10% because I have no idea how many people would do that.
ESXi is not for 90% of home users. It is built for large scale hosting where VMfusion and Parallels are often used for single client instances.
