Okay this guy must be new to the opensource world. This mindset doesn't make sense what-so-ever. If it did, we wouldn't have KDE and Gnome. We wouldn't have OpenOffice and KOffice. We wouldn't have Mozilla and Konqueror. We wouldn't have RPM and Deb. We wouldn't have Linux and BSD (okay I know it's stretching)
I'm not trying to troll here, it just seems to me that there are numerous other examples of redundant projects that both have their merits. Yet none of these projects is willing to admit the other might be headed in a stonger supported area.
I say Kudos to you and way to take the focus to a project that will more than benifit. You've shown that it's not a matter of pride, but more of common sense.
Remember the mars probe that bounced off the atomosphere into oblivian? Or the one that crashed and burried itself into the surface? Or how about the countless explosions of commercial satellite payloads of the titan rockets?
Not to mention losing 2 out of the 5 shuttles because engineers sorta just "guessed" a problem was okay.
Seems to me that while there have been some noteable accomplishments there are also some major pitfalls in the nasa program. I know that space exploration is a new field, but it would be nice if simple mistakes weren't happening.
OpenSSH is named Open for good reason. It's Open Sourced! The great thing about it is that you can go ahead and put kerberos support in at any time you want and re-release it. I'm not quite sure what license OpenSSH runs on (guessing BSD, but to lazy to confirm), but you might even be able to release binary only versions and make some dough off of it all as well.
I have been to the site and saw some info on downloading the GNU/hurd, but was not sure what to install or how. Their docs seemed lacking.
So is their kernel... has been for the last 10 years. Remember the Linux Kernel is just a temporary solution. We'll be moving to HURD any day now. You know once they add hardware support for ISA and IDE.
I think before when this was posted on slasdhdot a few days ago, I don't think I quite understood it, now I get to read it again!
If I didn't know any better I would say that RMS is just trying to have a little press cover the FSF. Linus' statement made sense (remember he's that guy that made the kernel in question, and maintains the community effort the kernel is now).
I got a question, since RMS insists that Linux be called GNU/Linux... and since I can compile and run nearly EVERY GNU program on an installation of SCO, shouldn't you make an SCO-FSF-2.txt and rename SCO to GNU/SCO?
Blaming Bill Gates for Microsoft Worms is about the same as blaiming Henry Ford for drunk driving deaths.
I'm not big fan of MS, but do you have to MS troll right there on the front page? Give the guy a little break, he's a gek that made it big and let the money get to him. He _was_ one of us back in the day, and I think a million billion dollars later I might change my core values.
but the design doesn't look all that complicated (in comparison with the rest of the vehicle). It almost seems like getting it patched up and back together won't take that long and there won't be a question of "do we risk another life to try it" because this things pilots stay safely o the ground (which makes flying a little interesting I'm sure).
I think this is a great proof of concept. I know it was going to fly for 96 hours, but wouldn't it have been neat to just fly it around the world instead? Just start it up at the crack of dawn... and crusie around the globe and pass over big cities so people can see it for themselves and watch as a "space craft" is above them.
I dunno I think this thing looks cool and I want one:-)
Everyone needs heros. What can I say... mine's foul mouthed synical truthsayers...
Forgot Dennis Leary and Dennis Miller...
Sorta draw from their influences and dig down deep into my soul and find the wonderfulness which is... telling people exactly what they're thinking, but are too afraid to admit.
Well I was going to say pedophiles, but I couldn't remember how to spell it (still don't know if I spelled it right). But I'm not talking about the guys who like to have their hair ripped out while gettin some. I'm talkin about the REAL sex criminals, the ones who take the innocence of children away... you know... like priests...
I've got a better idea. Is there any way that maybe we could just send a letter to every "bulk emailer" and ask them to please stop. I don't think anyone has ever just asked them to stop and maybe we should. Perhaps we can offer them dinner and show to go with it, as they're just misunderstood.
You want a "Plan for Spam" or a "End to all ends"??? Here ya go. You take all these lowlife scum bandwidth hogging email clogging horrible pieces of rat shit they are. Take them into the streets and beat them until they are a soupy mess on the floor that can only be cleaned up with a hose.
AND TELEVISE IT, that way anyone else thinking about joining the industry can see the example of "what will happen to you" and find another way to make their dirty money. I say we throw telemarketers ans sex criminals in the same boat, all of them. Put um all together and just beat them with a small stick.
That's my plan for spam. If we can bomb the hell out of a country for no reason then goddammit america can beat spammers to a pulp as well.
In light of the fact the RIAA is suing everyone left and right and is now going after more individual users there is a potential that I might get sued. As I don't distribute copyrighted material, I don't know HOW this would be possible, but I'm not about to think the RIAA will do something as simple as "Follow the law". I'm sure there's something I've done wrong that can cause them to force me into a settlement.
Anyways I expect this to cost somewhere in the ballpark of $130,230.34. That amount was literally randomly typed and it seemed like a real big amount. If I don't get sued, rest assured I will go forth and break the law because there really is no recourse for my actions. Even if I do "break the law" I can still count on the internet community to bail me out.
The internet is such a great thing and thank you in advance!!
I mean if the US can hold a Russian for violation of the DMCA (remember Dimitry) obviously American Law extends further than the borders of america.
Not trying to be a troll here, but it just seems to me that if you were to take open sourced software and released it closed source, unless you did it in the US, you would be fine, right? But how can all those VCD Dealers in Malaysia get busted by the Motion Picture Association of AMERICA?
I think the real legal threat to open source is the fact there isn't a huge legal padding fee behind them, hence the Open/Free (yes they are the same) software, no money exchanged.
Hmm, I don't know. Maybe because it is released under his license, following his philosophy, only built because of the existance of his tools, his compiler, his userland environment, etc. I don't know what his connection could possibly be...
Funny you seem like a RMS supporter... shouldn't you be proclaiming it as a community.
What the hell does RMS have to do with the LINUX KERNEL? It's released under the GPL, and that's about the only connection I can make here.
For some reason I see Stallman wanting to get in on this because he's Stallman and that's what he does. No one really cares, henec why ZDNet is the only one carrying his rant.
Get this... I've got a patent pending... but I'll letcha in on what it's about...
You rent an item for a set amount of time with a set price.
If you return the item in the time alotted then everything is great. If not you're given a late fee.
It's BRILLIANT!!!!!
Libraries, Movies, Equipment, you all owe me royalties now!!!
I don't get how you can patent a management style or business action. It would be nice if Uncle Sam would start to realize that them there computers on the desk ain't too hard to use. Maybe even somebody can connect one to the internet (of course by paying royalties to Al Gore) and cruise around.
This is nothing new. nVidia and ATI play with 3DMark, Apple and Intel put instructions on their chips to make photoshop run better. This really isn't anything new.
Benchmarks aren't what sells apples and price certianly isn't the drawing point. People use macs because they like macs. Hence why the mac market doesn't increase that much, they're too pricey and don't act like a PC. Granted as a user who uses windows, linux, and Mac OS, and all the subvarients between I can tell you that there are perks to all the operating systems. But as far as hardware goes x86 wins hands down.
Why is x86 better than apple? Simple, they're more tweakable, upgradeable, provide more selections, and are used by more people. Apple makes up for the "not used by many people" by making every mac an exact clone of another. Hence why when you get a file for a mac to be installed you just drop a binary in, every mac is the same (to an extent), whereas every PC is not, but the components are the same some just perform better than others.
Apple's prices are outrageous, and let me get into it a little more. A first time computer buyer is wary of a computer. They don't want to invest a whole lot of money in something they don't know if they're going to be able to use. But for $600 they can have a pretty decent machine that plays most every x86 game out there and runs most every x86 OS out there with little or no trouble. For $600 you might be able to score an old iMac. That old iMac MIGHT be able to run Mac OS 10.2, but it's going to be hella slow and not be able to do half the things the same priced PC will be able to do.
People who buy computers are looking for the most they can get with the least amount of money. Most people's computers are still beige. Most peoples computers have all the same applications. And Most people rely on somoene other than themselves for computer help, hence more PC's more help available.
I like OS X (especially with a two button mouse). I like linux (especially when everything works right). And I like windows (especially when XP loads correctly and doesn't crash and doesn't require me to kill processes in the task manager all the time to get some of my memory back).
All of these systems have their perks and they all have a place in the market, just they all want more of a place in the market, hence the competition. If Apple wanted to procreate so much they'd come up with a bargain computer other than the eMac or iMac. Something that has the ability to be upgraded (even if the user never wants to) and has the ability to run popular programs, hence MS, hey MS if I buy a copy of Word I want to be able to install it on either my PC or my Mac, I don't want to have to buy two different copies.
Anyways, these computers will be blasted out of the water in no time when Intel and AMD roll out their 64-bit badboys. Remember the 970 is actually an older chip in comparison to the AMD and Intel varients. Granted x86 isn't exactly new... but neither were the moto's.
I got a net censor, have the computers in plain site of all the patrons of the library as well as the librarians. This also brings in the question of "what is pornography".
Anyways after reading THIS I have lost all faith in the supreme court to actually even know what the constitution is. What is it with these people, do they not realize that the constitution is the framework for our contry and not a spare roll of toliet paper.
The constitution is for freedom and those freedoms should be expressed in all parts of the government especially our centers of education. I'm tired of these conservative views being implemented on me. You don't want your children downloading porn, how about you try being a parent and stop relying on everyone else to do it for you.
I want something to restore my faith in the system, I really do.
... but I'm not buying a portable music player until it plays ogg files ...

Sorta just food for thought.
If I can have that, then my life will truly be complete.
In a recent interview attempt with stallman ... I was graced with the following answer to nearly every question "Open Source does not mean Free".
Which means that BSD (and formerly KDE) are not "free" software.
Tsk tsk tsk ... guess I'll go back to my X11/apache/php/perl/gtk/gnome/evolution/mozilla/gn u/linux now.
So is their kernel ... has been for the last 10 years. Remember the Linux Kernel is just a temporary solution. We'll be moving to HURD any day now. You know once they add hardware support for ISA and IDE.

I know there is no conclusive evidence about EMF or radition, but I know it can't really be that good for you either.
I'm not big fan of MS, but do you have to MS troll right there on the front page? Give the guy a little break, he's a gek that made it big and let the money get to him. He _was_ one of us back in the day, and I think a million billion dollars later I might change my core values.
Area Codes ...
Here's my next question, where the hell is my http://donotemail.gov ???
Scum of the earth, scum of the earth.

Contrarily to some people that just mod me down and keep me in the dark you actually did something constructive by explaining things to me. Thank you.
I stopped caring about karma and moderation a long time ago, I post how I feel and I figured you asked a decent question and deserved a decent answer.
