The chances of finding an Earth-like planet "in our neighborhood" is far greater than finding one 100+ Ly away. This is due to two reasons:

    1) Closer planets are easier to detect (for obvious reasons)
    2) The heavy metal content in and around our "neighborhood" is greater than that which exists generally through out the Milky Way. This is because before the Solar System was formed, a massive star exploded seeding the area with heavier metals (iron+ on the periodic scale). These heavier atoms are obviously what makes up the Earth. Without this initial seeding, the solar system would only contain hydrogen based planets like Jupiter. Therefore, our local area is the best place to find heavy-metal planets.

Comcast and other cable companies have already tried the "pay per computer, not necessarily per modem" billing concept and have failed miserably. What they are realizing now (or should be realizing!) is that they need more granular control over the machines on their networks. So if that means granting them the capability to disable offending machines, then so be it.

Regardless, there are dozens of ways to circumvent this altogether if they get out of hand with it. If they manage to keep Joe P Dumbass from spreading virii and spam, have it it.

Let me explain something to you: I am utterly and completely atheist. I do not believe there is a God. I also believe that its everyones right as a human being to practice their religion freely. I also believe that its every individuals responability to RESPECT other people's beliefs and life styles and if you can't RESPECT it, then you TOLERATE IT.

The problem with the Middle East today is that they practice Islam the way people practiced Christianity in 1000 AD and they have no respect for life, not even their own. When I say that they need to "get their shit together", I am saying they need to modernize their society and stop being hateful. They need to stop strapping dynamite to men, women and children and blowing up buses and cafes, not convert to Judaism or Christianity or any other fucking useless religion. These people are quite frankly living in ancient societies in the modern world. Their societies are not compatible with anything other than Islam. They teach anger and hatred. They practice disowning family members over ridiculous things like not praying. This is the single solitary reason why they murder innocent men, women and children and fly planes into buildings. This is the single reason why they will eventually level an entire city like NY.

WRT retaliation; in war, unfortunately those who do not fight are the ones who die. Terrorists require immediate and overwhelming responses to their actions. If the response is not immediate and overwhelming, they grow bolder. Bin Laden spent the 80's and 90's blowing shit up. He started small and got bolder and bolder going after larger targets. Our response then by Clinton was to launch cruise missles into factories believed to be sponsoring terror based on old irrelevent information. As a result, Bin Laden felt untouchable and hence 9/11.

Right now we are living in a day and age where if we do not STOP terrorism NOW there may very well not be a tomorrow for MILLIONS, possibly BILLIONS of people. We are headed full steam towards a nuclear attack and when it does happen, the retaliatory response will change from "kill the hostiles who take shots at our humvees" to "kill everyone and don't give them a chance to re-group". It sounds crazy, but that is the state of the world right now.

P.S. Before going on your 150 word rant, read what I post and put it in the proper context.

The mere idea that the US Army intetionally kills innocent people is simply absurd with the exception of a minute few (since there are murderers in every country and every ethnicity).

Israel from day one did not bulldoze Palestinian houses and farm land. They did this in retaliation to homocidal maniacs who tell ignorant people that they will go to heaven if they kill a bunch of Jews. Killing based on religious or ethnic traits is simply genocide.

Yes Israel has killed more Palestinians than the Palestinians have Jews. Yes its not so black and white. The difference though is that Israel is and has been operating in self defense for over 10 years and attempting diplomatic negotiations repeatedly along the way. The fact of the matter is that if Israel were occuppied by the PLO (instead of vice versa), the Palenstinians would have already killed all the jews.

But with respect to the US Military, calling them terrorists is simply stupid. We had 3000 people die in an instant on 9/11 and the overwhelming potential for millions to die based by a terrorist financed and executed nuclear holocaust, all because the Arab world can't get their shit together, educate their people and reject Islamic Sharia and its caveman justice. As a result, we now have to clean up their pile of shit for them, and if it means that NYC never gets nuked by a crazy Muslim, I don't care how many people die in Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Egypt, N Korea or Malaysia.

The US spent the last 15 years not fucking with anyone and as a result we were attacked on a scale more horrific than Pearl Harbor. SO EAT MY ASS YOU PIG FUCKER.

These people will kill regardless of their motive. If it were not oil, it would be because we support all the oppresive tropical drink umbrela manufacturers in Malaysia. The fact isn't that they think WE hate THEM, but rather that THEY hate US for religious reasons.

The problem here is not with our society or political stance but rather the perversion of Islam and its encouragement to kill people, especially those who are non-muslim.

Bin Laden and many other terrorists site the oppression of the Palestinians as one of their motives, yet when it comes time to accept Palestinian refugees into their area, they'll lock them up in a camp and shoot the ones who try to escape.

The problem isn't that we're making enemies and quite frankly, never was. The problem is that we already have enemies and regardless of how these enemies were produced, they still want you and me DEAD. Until and unless we fundamentally change Islamic society in most of these 3rd world countries, they will continue to churn out enemies and we will continue to have this problem.

Playing nice with Islamic Terrorists does not and never will work. The PLO was virtually granted a reprieve for all the murder they have committed and yet they immediately turned around and continued to bomb buses.

Woah there, Tiger. You may believe that the Patriot Act is G.W's tyrrany and that Conservatives are "evil", but I assure you, there are very few people in Congress right now who are opposed to it, regardless of party affiliation.

I personally am opposed and I am very conservative. I also do not believe that Bush is the greatest President either, nor Reagan, etc, but that won't stop me from voting for him in November. Why? Because John Kerry firghtens the hell out of me on so many different levels, and I am convinced that if Congress re-ratified the Patriot Act, Kerry would _NOT_ veto it.

To Kerry is another Clinton who votes down the polls which is _NOT_ what a President should ever do, especially with the shit the country is going through today... not even during a re-election campaign (but they all do it!). I don't find Bush particularly intelligent, nor do I find him zealously religious like most people believe him to be, but over the last few years since 9/11, I have seen him toss out what the Public Polls feel is right or wrong, and take action on the things that will protect the Country from crazy people.

Taking on Saddam Hussein is not an easy thing to do. In fact, attacking Saddam has already knocked one President out of office and it may very well knock another out. The Bush Administration was fully aware of this when they made the decision to invade.

I digress. Associating a conservative with _ANY_ political issue is foolish and assuming that Republicans straight off the bat support Bush is plain ignorant.

Nobody likes the Patriot Act. Not a single person, but if Congress wants to re-ratify it, the only concept that puts me at ease is that they likely have their reasons for it.

I feel lucky today that 9/11 was an attack by planes and not a nuclear weapon. Until Islamic Societies mellow out, we _WILL_ have that risk. I personally am convinced that its not a matter of "if", but rather "when".
