Kinda gives me a warm fuzzy to see something like this.
Linux is dead.
why?
different distributions.
There's not enough of a real standard in it.
It's all downhill from here unless Linus himself steps in and makes an official distro, ala FreeBSD.
I hate windows, but still use it because I don't want to have to spend a few hours tweaking my system just to run a simple program.
(I can already hear someone say "you don't have to take hours, just do this." sure... under WHICH distro? which kernel?)
I wonder how well Q3:TA would do if they locked the linux version to a single distro...
Flame on, I've got my asbestos underwear on.
As it seems everyone else it pointing out,
a celery 600 and duron anything-mhz are NOT low end.
You want to do a real story, show the performance increases from TNT, TNT2, GF, GF2 on things like
celery 300a @450
p2 400~450
K6/2-450
(god in hell, who'd have thought THESE would be low end this quickly).
And who in their right, left, or anywhere IN their minds sets the desktop to, or plays games at 16 bit?
You may as well do 8 bit monochrome.
Show me 32 bit, or don't bother doing it.
I missed it this year...
Money, the root of all frustration.
I was crazy enough to take greyhound to it last year,
24 hours each way.
The things I liked most about MDK'99 were the
Japanese culture seminars.
(Yes, I know this is about MDK'2K, but I can only speak of what I know).
Last year, I hit two different japanese language classes
(which convinced me that I could indeed learn it),
a taiko (drum) demo, cooking seminar (which was a bit interesting at that altitude),
and I know I missed a lot more because I had my ass camped out in viewing rooms the rest of the time.
One of the best con's I've hit.
And not to sound like a mega-troll, but to those who missed it,
always assume there is an anime con the next weekend,
check any anime sites you know of (www.anipike.com comes to mind first).
Be proactive, hunt down the cons, and don't give up until you have their head on a stick.;)
Even if it's just a small one you have to drive a day to get to,
it's a new experience, a chance to meet other otaku,
and above all, to watch more anime.
Any bets on how many days before it hits the store the first 10 to 12 meg patch will come out? Anyone else notice that Carmak had a worklog update after Antkow's "gold" announcement? Whatever happened to it "being done when it's done"? Why is the sky plaid?
This does not mean people will take to linux in droves. Business sticks with what it knows, sheeple who want to work use what they use at work, or they live at work. W2K will sell to sheeple who either don't know any better, can't get any better, refuse to get any better. That and it'll probably be used to get more laws passed on pirating and such.
yes pirating is wrong, and software companies already have admitted that they EXPECT their software to be pirated, and so increase the cost to that of 3 to 5 liscences... hmm... wonder if that's what their plan is.
All windows OS are evil, here's my comparison: win95 OSR2: driving 75 in a 55 zone. win98 1st ed: killing kids just for the "*splorch*" sound they make. win98 SE: killing kids for no reason, just screamin "it's all about the benjamins!!!" winNT: raping tree sloths. W2K: serial killing, kleptomaniacal, fire-starting, bed-wetting, street sign vandalizing, tree sloth rapist.
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't men they're not greedy or out to get you, or out to make you use a cusioned toilet seat.
I just have fun with the machines I've got. cyrix 200: hagetaka (vulture) with win95, big bird with linux. K6-2/450: hisuitaka (jade falcon) win95, asuka with linux. P2/500: turkina (battletech people will understand), regardless of OS.
generally, I give systems names of anime characters, mechs, or items related to them. (avoiding the obvious MAGI names, and AI's from fiction).
place I work at is less imaginative, they just tack a number on the end of the company name. gotta GUESS what does what. *BZZ!* sorry, try again.
I remember last semester in animation class, I saw this book on CGI, and they showed the "worms" on Ahitaka's arm and how they were done. They did some kind of other effect I can't remember the name of to flatten it out and make it look like it was had drawn. Thea early versions looke WAY snakey.
I just hope when it comes out on DVD, that they don't do any adding to the japanese sub. If I'm doing the sub thing, I don't need the hints.
I returned my matrix DVD about 1 hour after I put it in my PC. (toshiba 6X, p2/500, xentor32, xing). I put the new one in and the same thing happens. I'm going to pick up a sigma hollywood card in a few hours,
but...
This is something else. there are TOO many people having problems with this disk. What do we do? Do we return it for good, and wait a few months for them to get it right? Do we bug them until we get them replaced with disks that work?
Lets face it, they know how to make DVD's, what happened here? Don't try to innovate, just give us a disk that works for everyone!
OK, For now at least, it has been said on anandtech and (IIRC) bxboards, that these things are overclockable, for now at least. 83 might be the highest I'd try the bus at without some wicked cooling.
What I consider the most promising piece of tech associated with this chip, are the slot 1 adapter cards. I'd really like to see if anyone can alter them to get them to run dual on a BX board. doing it on the riser board should have the advantage of not having to purposely damage the CPU itself to do the hack.
I mean, heck, if they cut out the OC-ability of them, but we can still get them to run dual... well I could certainly have fun with a dual 400.
The browser wars shall never end until every IE user is purified by fire!!!
Ok, so WhizKids will now have the Battletech system.
A question that's been knocking through my mind is,
How hard does WhizKids protect it's IP?
Are fan sites going to have to worry about being shut down,
or are will it be business as it has been (fans a bart of the process).

Oh man,
M$ dying would be SUCH a nice present on my (then) 46th birthday...
Of course them dying next year on my 26th woud be even better.
