Well, thanks for your wisdom, BubbaDave. Are you volunteering to be killed?
Oh... You mean other people will be killed, and Bubbas like you will do the killing. In that case, you have a mental problem, don't you?
Even soviet doctrine bowed to the necessity of acknowledging objective realities.
The objective reality is we will need to maintain the capability to kill people for quite some time, no matter what goofy-assed namby-pamby philosophy you, coward, choose to espouse. (coward as in posting anonymously, everyone has the right to their philosophy, and I would not call you a coward for holding any particular viewpoint or set of ideals. However, I may ridicule your philosophy.).
I'm saying that for the next few centuries I anticipate there will be those that voluntarily remove themselves from the community of men, and they will leave little choice on how to deal with them.
So should we adopt your doctrine (whatever it is) and not shoot suicide bombers before they have a chance to detonate their charge? Or should we target them as well as possible and save the lives of others?
I wish cheney had become president- because we would have gone right into statism directly, no gradual slide, and people would have realised what was going on and fought it.
Obama is a center-right authoritarian, and we are going in the same direction cheney would have, but slower, so most are able to maintain their state of denial.
Before you deny- why won't Mr. Open Gov't allow us to know what health care companies and lobbyists have been visiting him?
Cheney as pres would have been more pain up front, better results in the end.
In the old saying "Soap Box, Ballot Box, Jury Box, Ammo Box; apply in that order as necessary", nullification is what is meant by 'Jury Box'.
Sadly, not many know this or about nullification.
When a judge directs that "The jury may only make a finding based on facts of law" he is both wrong, and stripping you of a weapon against tyranny men fought and died for.
EDM would actually be very gentle and would not raise the temperature of the knob by much, but it is unlikely they can easily fill that area with the appropriate fluid (with few enough consequences) to do so.
I'm going to bet some clever mechanic type makes a tool that will solidly grab the knob and bend the 2 ears on the dashboard side without applying additional loading to the glass. As long as the tool only applies pressure against the knob, and 'braces itself' against the knob, you wouldn't load the winshield pane (more than it is).
My single-cylinder XR650L is quite sensitive to the difference between E0 and E10, what's interesting is your bikes were old enough that they were not jetted quite lean like modern street-legal bike engines are.
Yeah, for two-strokes there is even a whole other world of hurt than can be encountered with the mix oil compatibility with the alcohol.
E10 indeed drops mileage 5 to 10%, and you are MORE prone to having water problems in the fuel system, as moisture can come into your system via the fuel (in solution in the alcohol).
Not to mention that any engine with an open loop control system (mowers, weedwackers, 90% of all motorcycles) will have their fuel mixture leaned out (the more ethanol, the more fuel-rich the mixture needs to be). This need for a richer mixture is what drives the mileage decrease.
This causes poor running, overheating, stalling, and on engines that are already running excessively lean from the factory to meet emissions requirements there is a real risk of engine damage.
I lived the transition from E0 to E10 back in connecticut, so not only does thermodynamics say there is a mileage loss, so does experience.

One thing that was disconcerting to me though, was the amount of elevator it took to get airborne. That seemed to me like a not well balanced (CG) aircraft.
It could be other things requiring a large elevator movement to produce much effect: - the elevator has a lot of flat surface in front of it - the elevator pivots where it meets the surface in front of it - a lot of the elevator surface is blocked by the body
ABS was not designed to shorten braking distances, it was designed to allow clods to steer while panic braking.
On snow stopping with the ABS can be significantly longer than without, as sometimes locking the brakes when there is loose crud (snow, dirt, gravel) is often the optimal solution.
In the rain is about the only condition where I think ABS really helps to shorten the stopping distance for most drivers.
Serious off-roaders will disable ABS because on a steep grade with low traction, it will try to kill you by denying you the ability to lock-up the brakes.
Some cars will not let you stop on a snowy downgrade until you yank the Ebrake, or disable the ABS.
Dave
People have been saying that ever since ABS brakes came out, saying they are driving faster because they think they can stop faster....Then air bags saying it was because drivers think they would not get hurt in a wreck....Maybe people in general are just driving faster for no real reason.
And unfortunately, there are pretty much no conditions where ABS helps you to stop *faster* (shorter distance) and sometimes increase the stopping distance by a large amount.
Dave
""how about we let you meet with him alone in a room and talk about just how fat and old you think we cops are?""
You should have said 'Yes, lets go do that'.
Did you complain to this cops superior?
The police chief?
Have you and your friends mercilessly hounded this asshole?
If you didn't push back at all on this, you are part of the problem, part of the reason some cops think they are above the law, and don't work for us, and are not responsible to us.
Before you say 'tough talk from someone who's never been there' I've been there and I was at the sheriffs office the next day.
Dave
Air-cooled engines are built with larger clearances to handle the larger temperature swings they see (especially piston-to-cylinder), and so they are prone to burning a bit of oil.
You also have to remember that your car is not only water cooled, but it also is run at a small fraction of its rated power for 99.9% of the time.
Run that engine at anything near the % load you'd run a generator at, and you'll see some oil use.
Dave
Dunno about where you live, but around here a vehicle with a broken/tampered odometer is illegal to drive until it's been properly fixed and documented. Invalidates the registration and quite possibly makes you liable for insurance fraud (since vehicle mileage is often used by insurance companies at assess risk - drive more, more risk). Can't (legally) sell the car if the odometer repair isn't properly documented either.
Better get that fixed.
=Smidge=
Perfectly legal here in New York State, when you transfer the vehicle you just have to disclose that the odometer does not reflect the actual mileage.
Dave
We have genetic engineers- it's about time to crossbreed tobacco with coffee so coffee has caffeine and nicotine.
Dave
Damage? Who knows, just because it's causing clouds, that doesn't by itself infer damage.
Now, on to pollutants... the solid fuel boosters pump out a few-hundred tons of fairly nasty stuff each launch- a lot of it being greenhouse gases.

Geneva Accords, 32 Nations Summit, April 2039, Section 329, Paragraph 27.

And its application? A green laser makes a better laser sight than other colors.. Progress... or not.
Killing people is going to be a regrettable necessity for some centuries to come.

We all bloody well know this will only be enforced when the blasphemy is against islam...

Damn, I must have buried that at least 5 layers deep!

And where do you think Germans came from? The cradle of civilization maybe? Where is that again?
Belgium.
