If you think Dilbert and User Friendly are books, you should have your head checked. There are differences between classic literature and comic books. I'm 15, and we read Lord of the Flies in school last year. It's a great book.
Situation: this guy wants to have sex with this girl, but the girl doesn't want to. Problem: The girl has a horny-turn-er-offer(tm), made just for times like this.
I said "fuck off guys" because I couldn't think of anything else that would express what I meant well enough. I thought fuck off would be ok in this sense, and yes I DID think about what I was saying before I posted it...I tried putting different things in instead of fuck off, but none of them really "fit".
...I wonder what else they'll try to trademark. Might they trademark "KDE" and "Gnome" too? Or maybe, if they're really serious about this, could they change their names to "Linus Torvalds"? This will probably be a lesson learned to the offenders, after they go out of buisiness because noone will buy from them. Fuck off guys, the Linux community doesn't need or want people like you.
Well, that's all and good, but how much do they cost? There's nothing about it in the story, and nothing mentioning the new chip on Intel's web site. They must cost 2 arms and a leg, eh? in which case we wouldn't be able to use the computer. (Unless they're coming out with another "You talk it types" program. Good business strategy.)
Unreal tournament is NOT being opensourced. Read the.plan and you'll see that only certain parts are. (the game engine isn't, along with most of the rest of the game).
I'm not against opensource, in fact, I love it. I was ecstatic when I heard Quake1 was opensourced. However, this does present the challenge for everyone who wants to play the game as it used to be. This is a problem with basically any opensourced game that really, to my knowledge, has yet to be addressed. The question is, how do you know whether that guy who noone can beat is really good at the game, or hacked a version that auto-aims, auto-fires, etc? I think it's good that someone is finally addressing the problem, at least for one game.
They're working on figuring out how to make those apps work. rushed now, so I won't go into details, but essentially, Glide2x and Glide3 work in completely different ways, with different system calls. Hopefully they'll get it working soon, as now I have to keep an old version of X set up and use that to play UT:(
Just before the party, Eadline was approached by Tod Needham of Microsoft Research who suggested that he would like Microsoft to help underwrite the party. A quick meeting by the organizers was held on the trade show floor to discuss the various political and community consequences of accepting money from Microsoft until it was pointed out that "We can buy more beer with the money".
So the secret comes out eh? It turns out Beowulf clusters are run on BEER! I've done some research, and it seems that: (Lots of comps) + (Lots of beer) + Beowulf > (Lots of comps) + Beowulf alone. The reason for this is that beer was shown to actually do the opposite for computers as it does for men. It INCREASES memory and speed, meaning male computers no longer have an excuse for not remembering that ugly looking female's phone number.
Iwin Xetos alread includes various tools and utilities which will make working with and administrating Xetos very easy. You will stay compatible with your old system. Iwin Xetos understands Linux, Windows, MacOS, Novell and AmigaOS
That seems to say that it can run all of those OSes binaries. Erm, no. That's not happening any time soon (how long has Wine been in development?)
Let's see...what will they try to do next? Maybe they'll patent the CD creation process and require everyone who makes a CD to pay them a fine. Or how about patenting do it yourself mixes? Or, maybe, they could patent how you have sex. Or how about patenting the acronym CD? (after all, it IS in their websites name).
Erm, disregard the one about sex. No idea how that got there.
1) Earthquakes. Lots of them. 2) Hurricanes. Lots of them. 3) Floods. Lots of them. 4) The Apocolypse's horsemen will ride the earth. 5) The Messiah will come, but it will turn out he has no power, and will perish with the rest of us. 6) The Antichrist will come. 7) The Supreme court will announce Microsoft innocent, and the apocolypse will come. 8) Every computer, everywhere (except those running Linux or some other flavor of UNIX) will crash. 9) After being announced not guilty, and after all the computers crash, Microsoft will reveal that in order to fix the problem, you must buy Windows2K which will arrive in about a year. 10) WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
If anything else is going to happen, please notify me so I can stock up more food and buy more guns.
If this happens, it will mean Windows might actually become a GOOD product (however unlikely). This has been one of the problems, that Windows has been in development along with other things made by the same company. I have the feeling that if Microsoft had stayed with making one product (aka, windows) the whole time, Windows would be a MUCH better product than it is today. So if Windows becomes a good product, why should we care if Windows use is increased? The reason most of us use Linux is because we wanted something better. If Windows becomes better, what's the problem?
It seems that Apple, once again, has begun another slow death because of bad PR. Simple rule of business: Talk it over within yourselves 3 times + 1 press release, not the other way around. They're probably going to lose a lot of customers from this, because the customers just don't know if they can trust Apple to do what it's expected to do.
That's like copywriting the format of a text file!

So, unless I'm understanding this wrong, I could copy the format

in a file, and if anyone used that format, I could sue? *boggles at the concept*
All I can say is "wow." I want an oc-192 connection! (fill up my 9GB harddrive in.1 seconds or so);-). Well, my dream will (probably) never be realized but if any of you out there want to donate one to me call...
I installed vmware on my Linux box...it's an SMP dual PII 266 system...one processor for each OS...that ROCKS! in full screen mode, there isn't even any refresh problem (in a window, it runs sort of slow because of refresh rates). All I have to say is this thing rocks.
I got a dual PII 266 when it first came out (yes, it was quite expensive), but in Linux (especially kernel 2.2.* with its extended smp support), it flies. running more than one program at once without ANY slowdown is great...aka, i can have a graphics app going like gimp and be surfing the web without slowdowns, unless i run out of memory.

Must...be...first...to...download.
*panic* -- it's not on my favorite ftp site!
*oops* -- I shit my pants
Segmentation fault (Core dumped).

In short, what these people are doing is PURE BS!

you know someone who plays QIII under linux and uses a cheat, plead for them to stop, and have them plead for others to stop
This really doesn't affect Q3, at least yet (we don't know what code is going to be released, so it may not affect it at all).

Just my 2 cents.
