    You can get a similar experience with a large displacement triple or twin cylinder motorcycle. You get gobs of torque without having to shift all the time. You can get a 10 year old bike that outperforms any supercar for less than $3K used.

    Don't worry. The parts department will make sure there is an appropriately ridiculous markup if you ever need to replace a camera. We have $700 mirror housings today. They aren't going to give that revenue up without a fight.

    It isn't the fact that you have support for both but rather that newer receivers have have improved ability to pull the signals out from background noise and lock on faster.

    What you wish for already exists as the USB-PD extension for USB2 and 3. It provides a negotiable 12V and 20V supply with up to 5A current (depending on cable and power supply limits). With time it will become more common as peripherals using PD as their main power supply enter the market.

    The ISS collaboration was a make-work program to ensure Russian engineers didn't run off to work for states in the axis-of-evil just to put food on the table. That's why a lot of dodgy MIR-2 bits were shoehorned into the design. Now that the Russian economy is in a better condition than in the 90's they don't need to be beholden to us especially when they control the manned launch services industry now.

    You know we already have mirrors providing the same rear view. There are also multi-camera systems that warp the imagery to provide a complete map of what surrounds your vehicle, dramatically reducing blind spots compared to mirrors. Distracted drivers are messing with their smartphones, not gazing into the bland camera feed from the back of their car.

    A computer is like a printing press which in itself is a patentable piece of technology but the plates it prints (running programs) are only subject to copyright rather than patent protection. This goes to show how technologically incompetent SCOTUS is.

    It is unfortunate that the popular media does what it does these days and ignores "boring" news in their chase to find the next hot story. Still, this is an election year and the Snowden revelations will likely come back to the foreground as candidates pander for votes, especially with the GOP fractured, having no real consensus on how to sell themselves.

    Funny. There's a shit-ton of Chinese messaging phones using Blackberry style keyboards with shaped keys (oooh so innovative). I doubt they're licensing the patent given the low price point these sell at in emerging markets.

    There was a time when cell phones lasted weeks on standby. You can still get them if you don't fall prey to the smartphone fad. Mine lasts 2+ weeks between charges on a 1 year old battery.

    I was always under the impression that Americans mostly opt for a what is usually called a class action lawsuit whenever something like this becomes public knowledge.

    American lawyers opt for a class action lawsuit because they skim millions off the top of any settlement or damages. The rubes who form the class represented by the lawyers get peanuts.

    To alleviate some of the pain of not being admin you can put yourself into the "Power User" group which is less restrictive than the defaults for ordinary users. It does introduce some security holes but will still thwart most malware expecting to run as admin.
