exactly and in the case of the article. A cop, who should have training to not panic, killed himself and his family because of panic. I race cars but not on public streets, and unmodified card often can not deal well with high speed in traffic. I suspect the officer was doing all he could to keep the car on the road and didn't have much time to think about how to turn the car off or disable it.

Government or private makes no difference here. It's bad guys (or just people with lax controls) and good guys. In either case someone will do the research. If the good guys do it (people with good intentions and good controls) then we stand a chance of saving people when the bad guys do it and fuck it up.
Exactly! Rights are not something that requires work by another party for you t have them. The right to free speech doesn't require anyone to do anything. You can talk all you want and publish your own paper, if you can pay for it. But you don't have any right to be published by someone else. To this layman the current system seems to rely on faster moving large planets. Most if not all recent discoveries are plants that orbit on the order of days. It's not likely we will find larger planets like those in our system with this method. Saturn takes something like 22 years to orbit the sun. You won't see many transits of longer orbit exoplanets in the typical astronomers career.
Really we can patent food restrictions based on particular beliefs about what's "right" for you to eat? Seriously? Not to mention the the whole food Nazi aspect of this, ooh wait that's a belief system too and I think the patent is still active. Someone should sue for patent infringement!!!
