I've seen hyphens, a dash is actually about twice as long as a hyphen and used for a completely different purpose. I've never once seen a backslash. The author most likely confused the backslash in c:\windows with the slash in http://foobar.com/.
I agree that's a very nice feature, and it very much surprises me redhat hasn't done something like this themselves. Actually that's the reason I'm thinking of switching to debian. This type of behavior can be emulated with autorpm though. It's not perfect, however, but it works.

Well since we're on icons...As someone who is running the pre-release of 1.1.2 at home (2.0 is still way too buggy for my tastes), the new icons are bootiful. Also, they will come in 48x48 pixel sizes and 32x32. A 32x32 40 color version will be available for download after the initial release. I don't fully understand the decision not to include them in the instal by default, but they aren't planning on doing it. KDE 1.1.2 will also come with kthememgr (which is a theme manager for kwm) so you can get window manager themes. The widget themes won't come until 2.0. There is also talk of themed icons for 2.0. All in all lots of fun stuff is on the drawing board.
Just a guess. Corel stated that they plan to bundle their distro w/ their office suite. The $500 was probally for the office suite + the distro. $500 for an office suite is not an unheard of price, way more than you should have to spend, but it's not unheard of. I garauntee(sp) that corel will not sell just the dist for $500, no one would buy it. That would pretty much be the same as opening a hamburger store that sells $200 cheeseburgers right next to mcdonalds. No matter how good your cheeseburgers are, no one is going to cough up that kind of money for a quick lunch.

You don't have to give anyone access to the source if they don't have the binaries. If you distrubute a binary to someone, and they request the source you must provide it to them. From there they are free to redistrubute the source how ever they want withing the rules of the GPL. Since Corel has yet to release anything other than some screenshots they can hold onto the source for now.
I 100% agree with this. It would be nice though if the format could remain compatable with tar. That way slackware style people could just untar it, while someone using redhat/debian/god only knows what else could install it through the package manager. Do tar files have enough room in the header for a "spec" file? My understanding was that they had quite a bit of room marked as "reserved".
Why exactly are debs better than rpms? I've heard many people say things to the effect of "debs are technically superior to rpms" but i've never once seen a person who could tell me why.
PSSST! this was a joke. It was not meant to be taken seriously. I saw it as a bit of satire based on all of the various "the internet is evil" campaigns that have been going on lately. Lighten up.
Uhm...your definition of Mega as being 10^6 (I know this is true outside of computers) *IS* the misinterpetation that companies use that you refer to. mega = 2^20 or 1048576 or *roughly* 1,000,000. Since defining mega as 10^6 instead of 2^20 gives a smaller number, hard drive companies use 10^6 to inflate the size of their drives. I really don't see any of this as a problem as long as you keep in mind that your 6gig isn't really 6Gb.
Amusingly my place of employment (Bell Atlantic Data Solutions Group) recently had their "Net Generation Day" (take your kids to work day) in which they had various names for the different age groups. The kilobytes were the young kids like under 6. Megabytes where under 12. Gigabytes were the left overs. Your comment about "kiddybytes" reminded me of this.
You know what I always found amusing? How little schools actually teach about the electoral college. It's always people elect the president. Not people elect the members of the electoral college who are free to vote anyway they wish on the president. Go figure.

It is kinda messed up how this whole thing worked out. IMHO a "country club" prison would have been more appropriate. It's not like kevin was a rapist or a murderer, he cracked computers and built red boxes. How is that any more dangerous that someone who commits election fraud, or embezels millions of dollars from a company. IMHO it's less. Sun wasn't out 80mil just cuz kevin saw the solaris source code. The phone companies weren't out millions because kevin had a red box (which afaik then never could prove he used). He social engineered the DMV, he didn't crack their systems. The ammount of actual damage he did probally could be covered with a check from my checking account, which is patheticly low in funds until my next pay check.
In defense of the legal system he did waive his right to a speedy trial, so it's pretty much his own fault. Of course the fact that he was beaten in jail isn't. And the way I understood the article was that he was going to be sentenced to 68months in prison or almost 5 years, which is the amount of time he's already served.
Just a guess about why windows2000test.com has fewer dropped packets: microsoft has a lot more bandwith thank linuxppc.org. linuxppc.org's line is probally flooded. Just a guess...
Actually I know for a fact Jordy has no microsoft connections. I used to know him from irc way back in the day (Jordy, if you're reading this it's SPaM from #couzin-ed). He's a bit wacky when it comes to certain things, but generally he knows his stuff. And he's definately not a microsoft troll.
Actually I think XFree86 4.0's method of dealing with video cards is better than fb or ggi. Mainly because fb and ggi are linux specific. With Xfree86 4.0 a company just needs to write one driver and any x86 os that supports xfree will support that card. Also, supporting different cpus shouldn't be all that much more work for the company. What I'd actually like to see is a way to make the linux fb driver load XFree86 modules.
Netscape is buggy as hell when it comes to fonts. When it wants a 16pt font instead of getting a 16pt font from the server it grabs something like an 8pt font and scales it to 16. This works fine for a bitmap font that only has an 8pt size, but when you are using true-type fonts it gets stupid.

Maybe you have never really listened to Weird Al. The man is brilliant (not just wrt music). Sure he doesn't seem to be able to write music, but he is one hell of a lyricist. If he really had no tallent I doubt he'd be so popular. He's not the only person on the planet who does paradies.
Weird Al is pretty damned nerdy himself. First the man's mega-smart (graduated highschool 1st in his class two years early). Second...look at him, the man has to be a die-hard geek, even if he doesn't know it yet.

1.374Gb actually...

4 nics will only do any good for an intranet. Unless you have a 400mbit connection to the internet. It's not a very realistic setup.
