As much as I hate to say it. I agree with you. While I'm very opposed to the death penalty, I think some people just have no right to breath the same air as the rest of us. Not to mention Terrorism almost never works. More often than not it just pisses more people off than promoting your cause. Now when your cause is a purely selfish one, like demanding money, it really doesn't hurt the cause any, but I still think these people should have a nice big old bullet in their heads. Now if it was some kid in his bedroom and just did it to prove it could be done, I think that he should be hired to help them fix the problem.

Our "admin" doesn't know shit for netware and refuses to learn because "netware is dead". He's waiting till nt5/doze2000/whatever comes out because it will have disk quota support. I've tried to tell him 5000 times that Linux uses resources more effeciently; that samba runs faster than NT; that it does disk quotas NOW. Of course he's in the process of getting his MCSE and refuses to admit that NT is anything less than great. Actually now he will admit nt4 sucks rocks, but that's only cuz nt5 "is right around the corner." It's really sad to see such alegience to an OS that is made by a company that has no alegience to it's customers. What was really funny was to see him coming to me when he needed some email accounts setup. He didn't have m$ exchange server (or whatever it is) setup and he needed them done that day. In about 15 minutes i had created the accounts on the linux server I run and everyone was happy. Oh well, atleast it's nice to know that the revolution is taking place and that it WILL be televised.

I don't know if the FSF can sue if they don't own any of the kernel code, it seems likely that at some point atleast some FSF code snuck into the kernel over the years however, but I'm certain they could handle all of the legal fees and take care of the lawyers 'n' such. They did this with NeXT's objectiv-c compiler.

I think the issue of if this violates the GPL is still in question though. IIRC the GPL expressly forbids linking a binary module to a GPL'd program, but Linus made an exception to the kernel for binary modules. But I think that exception only holds if no kernel modifications are necisary. The modules come with some kernel "patches" so I really have no idea. I'm sure RMS would love the chance to sue these people though.

  13. Welcome to the real world on GPL violation of the Linux kernel? · · Score: 1

The GPL is a legal document. It has nothing to do with ideals, it has to do with the law. If someone places any restrictions on the distribution of a patch to the linux kernel they can be taken to court and they will lose. This has already been proven with NeXT's objective-C compiler. They took the gcc source, modified it to be an objective-C compiler then refused to release the source code to it. The FSF took them to court and won.

Actually the last time this happened it was due to confusion with a new webmaster at the company. The company had every intention of releasing the source, they also were providing a pre-compiled kernel for convienece. The new webmaster aparently assumed that only the kernel binary was to be released. The matter was quickly cleared up. Also, beta has 100% nothing to do with it. IIRC under the GPL you can protect the source to a program only if you give it to NO ONE else.

Now maybe I'm reading this differently than you but that very much seems like a commandment not to use KDE, "just say no to KDE." This is what I'm complaining about, people blindly following RMS without thinking. If you honestly believe that by using KDE you will give QT controll of Linux, fine, don't use it.
