Philly has had 10 digit dialing and overlapping area codes for years now. 215/267 (city) and 610/484 (suburbs). I don't know why NYC (and apparently other areas) are forcing dialing the 1 though. Here the 1 is optional on calls to 215/267/484/610 and required on everything else. I really don't get why people make a big deal about it, everyone got used to it really quickly.
I'm not questioning your right to backup a DVD you bought. I'm just commenting on the original post implying that this software would have use for copying a home-made dvd. It just plain doesn't. You could use cdrecord to backup a homemade dvd (due to lack of CSS and compatible media sizes).
Now why would you need software that is designed to get past CSS and deal with copying discs that are >4.7G to copy a DVD you authored in the first place. If you burnt the disc yourself just copy it.
Bounds checking really isn't that difficult in C. strncpy() instead of strcpy(). C made a good choice not to enforce bounds checking when you don't need it.
That already is a law. IIRC the pledge of alegiance is defined in US law, hence why there was a huge stink over the church and state issues. I could be talking out of my back side though.
I think you missed the point of fantasy. If it makes you feel any better keep in mind that the story happens in "middle earth", arguably a different place from our little world. But really, just because a story can't happen, why should that completely kill it? I don't believe in wizzards or hobbits, but they still make for an interesting tale. Oh well, I'll be enjoying the two towers, you won't, different strokes.
Why are you getting so uppity over this? So he wants to pay $10 for legal access to music. You don't. Is this service going to interfere w/ your ability to get mp3s? No, so shut up
CRTs are capable of showing effictively infinite colors. They only have three colors per pixel, but each color of each pixel can be set as dim or as bright as you want. In other words, if resolution was set to 800x600 you could create a gradient going from pure black to bright red with 800 different intensities of red using only the red component of each pixel. Sure your computer probably can't designate more than 256 levels for each color, but the CRT itself is quite capable.
io.com is (at least it used to be) an ISP as well. So figure you're going to spend at least $10/month for dial up access, so add the $120 to the $100 and $168 seems like a pretty good deal.
Coors exports? I have yet to figure out why people in the US drink Coors, I just can't believe that people in other countries would. Especially since I'm assuming it is more expensive due to being an import.
You are an idiot. Yes it is okay since a corporation is doing it. It's their game and they can set what ever rules they want. Read the article, they are denying free passes to "rumor sites". Please tell me how these sites have some right to attend the event for free. They can still buy passes if they want. Is Apple/IDG being stupid and potentially alienating their custommers? Possibly, but they have the right to do business anyway they want.
I have no clue wrt/ star wars, but from what I understand film has an effective "resolution" of 5000x5000 pixels. Also film is much better at capturing really bright objects in the same scene as a really dark object. The only digital cameras I've used have been in the $8k range, I'm sure they are nothing compared to what Lucas used, but I still wonder if the really high end equipment can compete with film.
BTW, I'm not one of those people who think vinyl sounds better than cd, I just don't think digital film is at the level of real film yet.
For those of us who went to the.NET academic launch thingy, our school's definately did not pay for the software, seeing as the event was not held at my school nor did my school have anything to do with said event.
Trust me, slashdot will NEVER be able to break google. IIRC they have something around 100+ machines serving out results. Slashdot's 5 or something. If slashdot can handle the load, google won't notice it.
Both are probably right. Think about the flooding that occurs whenever a particularly nasty hurricane hits. Now think of that flooding with an extremely nasty hurricane (bound to have happened at least a few times in the past 10,000 years or so), without anyone to sandbag rivers and what not, and keep in mind that to people 5000 years ago the world probably seemed a whole lot smaller. So, at least to me, the chance of one or more large floods (not global, or anything near that size, just large enough to wipe out a city or two) seems very high. Now keep in mind that many civilizations spawned other civilizations and the flood myths make a whole lot of sense (once you take out all of the religious elements).
The bandwith is still 6mhz, it's because they can compress the digital signal that you can get extra channels in the 6mhz. This is probably what we'll end up seeing in the end anyway, 6 channels with the same quality we have today, but 6x the commercials.
From what I understand (I don't have a gamecube so I can't verify) GameCube can take standard size dvd/cds, it's just that most of the games are on the smaller size.

The power supply is outside of the box. They have a pic of it on the second or third page, looks a whole lot like a laptop power supply (probably is).

It's just OpenSSH ported using cygwin, but it's meant to be installed on machines without cygwin, and it is really easy.
Then setup TightVNC for remote access. You can make ssh tunnel any connection so you can send VNC through ssh.

It takes two scans to make two *fields*, but one frames.
Television in the US is 60 *fields* per second, big difference from frames. It's 30fps (ok 29.97).
