    Basically, companies don't want to change the way their fundamental "business processes" work even when these "processes" don't make any sense

    I'm guessing you work for SAP or Peoplesoft...

    ..IBMs stance on the desktop highlights one of the problems with their "support" of OSS (the other is their IP stance). The last presenation I attended they trotted out the "not ready for the desktop" line. I think they see that Linux helps *them* sell servers but helps *other* people sell PCs. Just look at the little sticker on their portables. Funnily enough, Sun's presentation took exactly the opposite line!

    It would not be before time if they change their tune...

    Actually you have misunderstood the US system where voters are not voting directly for a president (if the were Al Gore would have won). Instead they vote for an electoral college which in turn elects the President.

    A very similar system was set up by the Russian Bolsheviks in 1917.

    I know others will point this out - but when will MS actually be punished for persistent illegalities rather than "giving away" stuff of "$$$" value that they claim a tax refund on?

    What happened to three strikes? Where are the orange jumb suits and chains?

    They are obviously serial offenders who see this sort of thing as a small cost of doing business.

    Especially considering super richness seems to be a better indication of propensity to terrorism than anything other of the 39 indicators being proposed.

    Well, experiences differ. When we started our campany 6 years agao there were five of us. Now there are 32 of us. Like 80% of the software industry we develop bespoke solutions. OSS has hugely enhanced our capability to deliver complex solutions using best of breed technology for a fraction of the cost.

    Services companies like our will easily take up the slack of product companies. Just remember, we are a services industry and the cost of our tools detract from what can be delivered for a given amount of money (everything else being equal).

    Took the words out of my mouth.

    Why all the new laws required outlawing spam when *all* spam I receive is fraudulent (as is the practice of highjacking my businesses ID for spam)? I have cannot remember the last time I received unsolicited marketing material where email headers and the email itself was not fraudulent.

    This is what our public prosecutors should be chasing down and gaining convictions on - can anyone tell me why they are not?
