    Google needs to realize that ahving something that is important to the internet ecosystem is, in and of itself, valuable.

    I worked on a tool to be used by consultants. These people have very sticky fingers. Are issue was how to we prevent consultants taking the software to another firm?

    We compiled a build for each customer with there logo inserted into various places. So when you run a report, no matter what there user entered, the embedded logo would appear on the reports.
    Going to another accounting firm, and then generating reports for your boss with your previous companies logo on it tend to get you frowned upon.

    Seriously? Let me explain with an example.

    politician: Decides the streets need to be cleaned. So they create funding and hire street sweepers.
    IN an interview thay woulod say "I tool the initiative in creting the street sweepers.

    Now, do you think he is saying he generically engineered street sweepers, invented brooms and truck? Or do you think he is talking about making the funds available to have street sweepers?

    This is high school level stuff. So either you are so wrapped up in a belief you can't actually be rational, or you can't even understand conversation at a freshman high school level.

    Instead of praising him for taking the political risk to making ARPANET open, and calling it 'The Internet' , people like you need to come up with twisted ways to blame him for it.

    Be smarter.

    It's not rigged in that you scenario doesn't really happen.

    "r stealing private e-mails and passwords en masse, like Google"
    asking for something from someone, and then they give it to you isn't stealing.

    Dotcom committed crimes.

    Stupid. Google has done many things to make people aware of privacy issues, and to even make ways to complete get off their systems.

    Google history shows that it is well behaved in this area.

    Do you know how those systems work at all? Let me give you na overview.
    System A: Sends out broadcast saying "hey, here i am!"
    System B: "I see you, can I connect?"\
    System A:" can do the following: 1-"sure come on in!" 2-"Sure, just give me a password"
    In these cases, System a chose 1 - "Come on in!"

    Yes, it gets a lot more detailed, especially on the authorization side, but that doesn't matted becasue these system didn't ask for authorization.

    And, in fact, it many places, what they did was not illegal. I would hard pressed to find a place where the scenro is illegal.
    Now if they were using an attack to gather the password, or get around a password that's a different story.

    the AG offered a deal for zero (0) prison time, MIT refused to accept it.

    How many people computer rooms did Google break into? none.
    How many people system did they hook an unauthorized computer to? none.
    How many systems did they put unauthorized software on? None.

    These two case aren't remotely the same.

    not really.
    For example. this weekend I will be renting a house at the coast for 4 days with 15 other gamers. we do it 4 times a year, or so.
    Internet connection at these rentals run the gambit from shit, to crap.

    The fact that you don't understand the difference between being online with someone and being in the same room is pretty damn sad.
    I would also add, when doing team play, being in the same room as your team is a hell of a lot easier to communicate then a headset. Not that it applies to many people.

    What? It would cost more to do it your way.
    You wold need to make a complete game out of both, instead of one game with 2 features. In the end it would cost exactly the same.

    It's a features I don't use in know way means it would cost less without the feature.

    If you are going to be cheapo, then also be knowledgeable, else you will just bite yourself in the ass in an effort to save a penny.

    France doesn'r relly have high taxes.

    I am defensive for several reasons:
    1) the word taxes has become a knee jerk scare word. Being further seperated form services. Meaning peopel talk about cutting taxes, and everyone loves it. A politician saying that the result is loosing servcies, and everyone villifys them.

    2) IT's about value.

    3) France is the US's first and oldest ally. The US would not exist without France. The general anti-france meme in the US is short sight, unfair, and based in complete ignorance.

    Then when people say ignorant shit like "France taxes the crap out of its citizens so we should have seen this coming."
    it just general irritates me. It is used to scare people. "You don't want to be like France, there healthcare means that are taxed really high!"
