    Are steps in a bigger long term plan.

    Like when you sit down to do your annual planning. You want to accomplish X in 12 months. You set many small achievable goals the get you to X.

    If you aren't doing annual planning, You should try it for 5 years. You would be surprised how it will turn your life around.

    Ah, the issues is you have no idea how to move int he corporate environment.
    I used to think like you, until someone taught me a very important lesson:
    "If your boss puts value on tokens they give out, bring the tokens to your review."
    "Be sure when you want to move to a new position, when talking to some who values tokens, how many tokens you have."
    Sure, a Thank you written on a 100 dollar bill would be better.. but you play with what you got.

    I ave a great boss now, and he asked me if I like getting awards? I said "Only if you or your bosses actual put value on them"

    Depends on implementation. It can pit employees against each other; but it can also improve the group.
    If you turn it into 'Get the most of X', then it's broken at the beginning.

    Example: Sales.

    Don't give the person who gets the mos sale a gold star. It will always be the same few people, and it will crush moral.

    Give everyone a gold star if the worse sales person increases their sales. Now you have the best people trying to figure out how to make the worse sales person better. Reward everyone when everyone improves.

    It doesn't matter because it's + or - and we see a constant rising, If the error bars were a problem and we didn't have global warming we would see the normal rise and fall + or - a degree.

    It's a long time know property of research, and it's why several studies should be done.

    I think that's a classic keyhole problem.

    Private companies have a shit ton of marketing and PR.
    90% of all projects in large companies fail. 10% succeed. The marketing never mentions the failure.

    In the government, 90% of all project are successfully, 10% fail. Because the PR(news media) only focuses on the negative, the success don't get talked about.

    This is the same thing.

    There quality kept dropping,l and ther stoped doing interesting and relevant thiings.

    They need to commit to something new and just run like hell with it. Going into 'course based education' was a mistake.

    Kits I would have included:

    Network Card. Firmware written but not compiled. Include compiler.
    TV Card - Same
    Computer case kit. Where you can built a smart sound and flashing led system
    Universal remote.
    Several Adrino kits.

    Kill your TV.
    If you can't keep it off and force them to be bored, then you should unplug it except for rare movies for interesting science.
    The easist for me to get my son to be building with electronics was model rail road. N-gauge Kato.

    Playing online games can be mentally enriching, depending on the game.

    My son builds great things with minecraft, and quickly ripped out a simple yet cool portal 2 map.

    Oh, and to be clear, we have TV and satellite. But my kids don't need much direction to go do something else. This MAY be because we didn't have TV for quite some time.

    This summer, we're build a TF2 Sentry. One the works and shoots paintballs.
