    why would a small 2 or 4 person chopper need a 3000 hp engine?

    you have obviously never been near a -8 400 hz mobile generator that is powered by a small gas turbine or gone to an airport and listened to small jets taking off, they use gas turbines as well...

    do you cross the street by closing your eyes and then step out into traffic listening for hazards?

    the current rolls royce allison 250 turboshaft engine starts at 420 hp and tops out at 715 hp for the top of the line model:

    how do they handle the high frequency noise a 420 hp gas turbine puts out just 18 inches from the rider?

    what sort of motorcycle clutch would handle that level of power and torque?

    When they steal liquor out of their parent's cabinet, get drunk and shoot a friend with daddy's pistol, we say poor baby you didn't really mean to do that, now i hope you have learned your lesson and promise real hard you will never do it again.

    And when they plot to kill their classmates for a year and half the school knows about it, including adults and then go on to kill 13 people we throw up our hands and ask why no one taught these kids any respect for others or personal responsibility for anything?

    Yes, but when the burglar is a school kid breaking into the school for the 4th time after hours and falls thru a painted over skylight after stepping on it, he and his family sue the school district for millions for not making the school buildings idiot-proof for teen burglars.

    i knew a white boy in the usaf in okc back in the late '70's who got out and applied for the okc fire department. he got 100% on the screening test, the fire dept hr guy told him they were really short of people and if he could he would hire him on the spot.

    unfortunately the okc fire department was under a court order to hire more blacks and thus could not hire whites until the blacks reached a certain percentage of the dept.

    the hr guy said of the few blacks that applied very few of those could even reach the minimum 'adjusted for minorities' score decreed by the judge so the department was desperately short of manpower yet could not meet the targets of the court order to hire more blacks and could not hire any whites at all until it did!

    i believe affirmative action was created by diabolical white racists so everyone would question any black's qualifications in any field under the guise of 'helping' them.

    some posts on this topic have alluded to asians and orientals hating and fearing blacks, yet look at the news and tv coverage of crime and antisocial activity in our culture, how often is the millionaire celebrity athlete or entertainer arrested again this week black?

    how often is the newspaper police sketch of a violent wanted offender depicting a black man?

    here in la the mexicans give them a good run for the money, but it seems everytime the evening tv news comes on there are handcuffed black men being loaded into police cars and ambulances, fresh blood stains on the pavement, why IS that...?

    the us gives the russians about $400 mil each year to help close down old and very dangerous nuke reactors, but they use the money to keep them running for another year because they are so desperate for electricity and no money to build newer and safer nukes...

    remember these people tried to extinguish the moscow tv tower fire by pouring water on live electrical cables feeding the tv transmitters for 3 hours because no one thought of turning the power off when the fire was first detected.

    the people on the mir were lucky no one was killed during the 15 years of failures and disasters! and don't me started on the huge waste of money on the iss!

    what a shame they don't use some of this money to secure the leaking cherynobl reactor and those sunken rusted nuclear subs in murmansk harbor leaking radiation into the sea...

    russia now has the dubious distinction of a *falling* lifespan for its citizens due to the terrible condition of the public health system on a par with some *advanced* nations in africa...

    i once knew a kid who could lose his completed[!] homework on the bus to school.

    he shows up for math class that day, and since this was not the first time he showed up without the required assignment the teacher told him, "if you are not going to do the work in this class don't bother coming at all..."

    so the next day the kid shows up at the vice principal's office rather than the math class and when asked why he is not in class, he relates what the teacher told him!

    of course he got suspended for 3 days, yet he did the right thing IMO by showing up at school rather than playing hooky.

    don't tell children to do things you really don't want them to do, their sense of irony or sarcasm may not be as finely developed as an adults'...

    before 1914 one pound sterling was worth us$5.00, doing the math: 18 pence*2.08333 = us$0.375 cents.

    an inflation calculator [http://www.westegg.com/inflation/] gives the value of us$0.375 cents in 1905 as us$6.75 in 1999, not bad considering us$5 per week was considered a decent wage in 1905...

    hydrogen? from where and how would you distribute it?

    electric charging stations for battery powered cars? how do we generate the electricity?

    wind power? a windmill on top of a car? yeah, right!

    ethanol? can you distill the stuff from biomass and use a fraction of the output ethanol to power the boiler stills?

    and what about the plastics industry, the input is crude oil, ya gonna use your cloth bag to carry those groceries and junk food packaged in plastics?

    what about electric bicycles ala ed begley in malibu? you can't put enough photovoltaic cells on the roof of a car to get it work...

    the 2 sr-71's were forced back on the usaf by congress they cost a fortune and there is something more modern already flying i am told... capital class battle ships have been completely useless since about 1925. airplanes, anti-ship missles and torpedos can destroy them in in a heartbeat. pounding viet-nam and beirut is good for the home war news but militarily worthless. the efforts to bring back big mo and the nu joisey was a total waste of the navy's money. so why didn't the japs attack hawaii with battle ships rather than flatops? bingo!
