Do you have a link to where MS have stated that Longhorn will have those limitations? There's pretty much bugger all systems or being sold that don't have at least one of those ports. I highly doubt MS would drop support for them like that.

As for web "applications," yes, I do think web pages should be more than static documents. Hell, look at the site you're reading now. Client side scripting could improve Slashdot's UI immensely, but certain luddites get all worked up about the very idea of client-side scripting and insist on dragging us back to the days of HTML 3.2.

Oh here we go, the old "nobody needs Javascript" argument again. Well, yeah, nobody *needs* Javascript if you're not concerned about reloading the page every time you want to do anything remotely dynamic. Who cares about bandwidth costs?

I'm sorry, but Javascript is a reasonable requirement of modern web applications. GMail is popular for a number of reasons, one of which is that it's *bloody fast* compared to the likes of Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail, and do you know why? Because they make heavy use of Javascript to make their program snappy and not resort to copious amounts of reload. Take away Javascript and you've taken away one of GMails big selling points.

Trying to force everybody into the same mould *does not work*. That is my point. Why bother with the pretense that everybody's the same when it simply doesn't work? The best way to counter bullying is by *encouraging* difference, not shying away from it.

FWIW, there are plenty of teenagers who attempt suicide because they're forced into this silly pretence of normal/mediocricy.

So yeah, the kid's probably going to have a tough time, but guess what, the same thing happened when house-husbands started appearing. The same thing happened before divorce was the norm. Unfortunately, societal change means some people will get burned. Sorry, it's rather unavoidable.

Is it really true that homosexuality is genetic? Is there actually sufficient evidence to say that it's definitely not your environment? Keep in mind that I have nothing at all against homosexuality, I'm just suspicious of the statement that homosexuals have no choice in the matter, since I've not seen any rigorous studies.

I do get very annoyed that MySQL automatically creates default values. It really, really annoys me that you can't create a table with, say, a date field in it that can't be inserted into without specifying that date. If you don't specify a date, MySQL doesn't piss and moan like it should, it just puts "0000-00-00" in for you. Argh!

Regarding referential integrity, I'm not sure why you think MySQL is sub-par, but InnoDB tables seem to behave sanely for what I'm using them for.
