Ah cool. I googled it and didn't find any links with a list of apps. Thanks for quoting the text from the link above. I'll check it out in full. Would have been nice to have in the /. story.

  3. App names? on Android Trojan Found, Spreading From Chinese App Stores · · Score: 0, Flamebait

So beware of downloading things from Chinese websites? That's news? It would be nice if there was a list of what app's this is being packaged with. For those of us actually enjoying the open source aspect of the Android OS, what is this going to tell us? That someone is harvesting data off of your phone? This is nothing new, it describes how half the apps on the Android Market work. This is just telling us that now someone who isn't hiding behind the false curtain of legitimacy is doing it too. Shocking!

  5. Net Neutrality is a Toll Road on Level 3 Shaken Down By Comcast Over Video Streaming · · Score: 2

And if history has show us anything about Toll Roads it's that they cause problems. While it seems cities can build Toll Roads, that ultimately pay for large civil engineering projects (arguably.) This whole situation with Comcast brings to mind the old west settler who owns a section of a river. Want to move through his section of the river, gotta pay a Toll. But in this case, Comcast created the river, which might change things. Taking into account the Anti Trust issues, and the River Toll analogy, I fail to see how the government can allow this to continue. Is it a matter of time before the "Comcast is the only high speed provider in my area" statement goes away and other smaller, ISP's are able to setup shop in most cities? Or will the government actually pass a law about this?

  7. Stupid is, as stupid does on Woman's Nude Pics End Up Online After Call To Tech Support · · Score: 2, Informative

I find this story hilarious. I'll never get tired of laughing at people being stupid. Unfortunately society has made it OK to be stupid about computers. The words "I'm not computer savvy" have become like fingernails on a chalk board to me. This woman didn't NEED to be computer savvy, she just needed to not be a complete maroon. The part about a stolen credit card... alright, I'll agree that was messed up and illegal. But the pictures, and sending a laptop... No excuse. Why do we as a society allow people to use their computer ineptitude as an excuse for being taken advantage of, or not getting work done, or damaging company property? It has become acceptable, and this is wrong.

1 year in a helpdesk position is not an overly long time. I would suggest finding a different helpdesk position if you're not happy with that company, or as the original poster put it, get out of the helpdesk gig if it doesn't suit you. Last thing anyone wants is to have a legit problem and call a disgruntled helpdesk tech.

When have college students ever had a realistic view of what their career would entail while they were in school? Also keep in mind that this specific article may refer to an issue that is generational. Many of us in senior positions in the tech field learned the stuff we use in our career when no schools taught it. We learned it because we were interested in it. They're learning it out of necessity to keep up in the world. It may be considered biased by some, but those that I hire are the people who do this for a living, not just as a job. A college degree gets a simple check mark in my head, not a prize.
