I think TiVo should have a free service (no cost) that somehow integrates custom Ads into the video. Perhaps a bar at the top (like web pages). This would lower the barrier to entry even more. To turn off the ads, simply pay for the service....
Lucas himself (on the Ep III DVD) said that Anakin *is* the Chosen one. He brings balance to the Force when he kills the Emperor (and himself) in "Return of the Jedi". I just don't think the Jedi realized all the bad things that would happen in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled.
The light side of the force is all about feeling and passivity, the dark side is all about conscious control and order
Right, which is why (for example) Obi-Wan is always telling Anakin to reign in his emotions and be more calm and ordered, and the emperor is trying to get him to lose control and give in to his anger. Both individuals argue for both things, just in different contexts.
Actually, I find this argument most interesting, but I think what the movies show is that there is a subtle difference between the light and dark side. Palpatine says himself that there is no difference between the Sith and Jedi, when he is seducing Anakin. I think the subltlies are what help push Anakin over the edge. But I think that Obi-Wan and Yoda tend to teach that students should "let the force flow through them". Not to control the force, but perhaps *guide* the force. The Emperor desires to control the force itself for his own whims. When the Jedi directly manipulate the Force, they are away they are dancing close to the dark side, but they rationalize it. (Like when Anakin is showing off for Padme' and says Obi-Wan would be "grumpy" if he knew he was doing it)
Andreessen sounds bitter about Java and Sun in general. Maybe he attributes Netscape's ultimate "failure" with their misplaced focus on creating a browser written in Java. Netscape placed a lot of faith and resources in Java and perhaps he feels betrayed or disillusioned. Anyway, I agree that PHP is better (or at least easier to use) than Java for some things. But it is not a replacement for Java.
He took something we loved, and used it against us
I am 38, and saw all the movies in the theater when they came out, and I thought Jedi was awesome. I did not think it was created to sell action figures at all. In fact, Lucas was had no problem selling action figures before Jedi, so I do not understand this argument at all. I actually prefer the new DVD versions to the old versions. People need to chill out.
My 5 year old would not sit through episode VI or V. But they both enjoyed Episode I. The OT has more depth than a child can absorb, and they get bored. My point is: watching it with a child makes it much more enjoyable.
As I see it: Lucas has created movies for different age groups, (perhaps to widen the fan base) but Episode I has its fans.
Originally, it ("Star Wars") was meant to be one movie. I wanted to start in the middle. It was meant to be a Saturday matinee serial. You never saw the first three episodes and you never saw what happened afterwards, I wrote the back story. I wrote what happened in Episode I, II, III and then I did Episode IV and it grew. It got so big that I chopped it up and made it into three movies. And then when I finished those three with "Return of Jedi," I didn't think I would go back and do the other ones.
I just watched Phantom Menace with my 2 young kids and we had a blast. It is a fun movie to watch with kids. I am not going to let my 4 year old watch the others yet, but Phantom is a great introduction to the saga (which is what it is supposed to be, after all)
Well, according to IMDB, Spider-Man is #6 all time gross (US) and Spider-Man 2 is #8 all time gross. I actually think they would have done *worse* if the PG-13 content was edited out. The stuff that made it PG-13 (stylized violence and action) made the movie better and probably sold more tickets. Not to mention Titanic, which is the top grossing ever and also PG-13. ( The teenagers are the ones who will see the movies tons of times if they think it is cool (I was one of them once) and the PG-13 rating (and content that caused the rating) will help make it cool.
I can't look at porn anymore :(

The big foot to the right of the story is a dead giveaway...

Two more articles that mention the "100% Pure Java" version of Navigator:

You are correct that they did not deliver a Java version of Netscape client (Navigator). But they supposedly tried.

I am not sure if the HTML component in the JDK is from Netscape or not, but I do know that it is really lame.

I guess that makes slashdot.org a "non-profit" organization...

He said "Good things cost more"
There is a difference. Think about it.

There is an interview with Lucas here:4 26.htm

in which he describes the story behind the story.

Did I not understand this?
Um, wasn't spider-man I and II PG-13
and All the LOTR trilogy?
They did pretty good at the box office...
