If you are a hobbyist, you should not sell your software. Leave it for the pros

only this single error in written english pisses me off. i don't care about any other things like coz, 2, 4, its/it's. please please everyone, no apostrophe when writing plurals!

i really dont understand how you can write "this software is sold as is. no liability, no warranty, blah blah" when you sell it. maybe now somebody will sue m$ and suckers like me who are still stuck with crappy vista will get a free upgrade to win 7. in the meantime, i have to run kde on ubuntu with crappy webcam and no fingerprint no hdd motion sensor support. and yeah, jerky audio from time to time.
but still lots better/faster than vista, for which i stupidly paid good money.

its funny i know but i like fast changing text like "connecting to 8.8.8.8..." and "looking up host google.com" and "loading image 9 of 56 (243.6kbits/s)". it makes the wait seem even shorter. specially since i now know that many programs just keep incrementing the progress bar even if nothing is happening (like opera mobile). i keep worrying over if it is really working or not.
similarly i dont like the loading logo animation of win7, i would prefer to have hundreds of lines of text scrolling on the screen, telling me as each file/driver/program is loaded.

It forces the designer of the program to open the window big enough for all the content to fit in all the time. That is according to spec, not a design flaw. You can also click the green button on the left hand corner to resize it. Either way, there is hardly ever a reason to resize windows for most well-designed programs.

in continuation of that logic i declare that bsod is "according to spec, not a design flaw."

how are boot up times even relevant now? even vista had decent standby support. in every pc (win or lin), you just close the lid if you are on the laptop or press the sleep button in case of a desktop. and when you want to use it, you just open the lid or move your mouse. the login screen comes up in a second. ubuntu has been aiming wrong for a while now.

what exactly was the reason/logic in moving the buttons to the left? i tried to find some blog, some explanation but have come up with a blank everywhere. they just did it to amuse themselves.
also, what is this shit about "instant-on"? my linux/windows pcs come up from suspend in about 1 second. i dare ubuntu "instant-on" to boot up faster. and you will have to count the bios also.

sadly true for many state governments.
but i think the government at the center is not that corrupt. this really is a security concern. the problem is that we don't have the kind of expertise to review each device individually for secret, kill-switch, call-home chips.
on the other hand china requiring source code won't do much about security, since it is easier to incorporate a tiny chip. imo, this is simply about not having to develop their own software.

just having access to the software source is terribly inadequate to address security concerns. a kill switch can be easily implemented in hardware as a tiny, insignificant chip. now if you are going to have every single piece of equipment reviewed by hardware experts, then ok. but i dont think that is practical.

and htc is not closed either. people have dual booted android on hd2, originally a windows phone. that to me screams about openness of htc phones.
