Ok so it was debated for a while, commities debate all sorts of dumb things. What are the chances that it will make it to the house floor? And what are the chances that it will make it into being a law?
Folks who live in texas may want to start writing letters now.
If you believe you can damage, believe you can fix
Well even if you have a unix guy on staff it might be worth it, Unix guru's are not cheap. If you can free you admin up from this he can do other things.
Remember that is a business setting people's time costs money.
If you are assuming that you are going to take compressed hydrogen gas and burn it to make H20, then you have a real problem. The energy to split H20 to make Hydrogen gas is greater than the energy you get out when you later burn the gas. Its that pesky second law of thermodynamics again.
Ofcourse the energy required to create oil is greater than what we get out of it too. Its just that that energy was put in by biological proccess when the oil was created. (Could be petrol or olive oil)
Well if the company had operations in Saudi Arabia the Saudi government could try to fine the company or make their life hard. I don't know of any cases where they have done that.
I don't know that they French should be able to do what they did to yahoo, except to say that Yahoo desided that it was not worth it to fight it. Remeber also that the first amendment does not give you the right to sell stuff on a private companies web site. Yahoo has every right to set guidelines for what they will and will not accept for auction on their web site.
There has been descrimination here but not on anything close to the scale of what was seen in Europe. Most US universities did accept Jews, just only a few each year. The school I went to Brandeis was founded to be a school that Jews could go to without a quoata. Richard Fienman went to MIT because he could not get into Columbia, same reason.
On the other hand the US is one of very few places in the world where I don't fear a mob comming down the street yelling "Kill the Jews"
The point is that since Yahoo had a branch in France the French court could hold the whole company acountable. Sure they could have closed down the whole France operation but was it worth it? Probably not. They would much rather have a.fr and a.de than have nazi memorabilia for sale. (I would assume I don't work for them)
The USA (And maybe Canada and Australia) are about the only countries in the world where there has not at some point been some state policy of persicuting, killing or expelling the Jews. There as far as I know are no countries in Europe that have ever had a significant Jewish population that has not at some point expelled or seriously persicuted the Jews. (Note some of these occured in countries before they assumed their modern names or borders)
I said I would love to see them go away, not I think they should be censored. I admit they have every legal right to do what they do. But Freedom of speach also allows me to say that I think they are positivly vile and I would like nothing better that to see the Neo-Nazi's crawl back under whatever rock they came from and never be seen again. Ok its not going to happen but I can dream.
The French court had the ability to regulate Yahoo because Yahoo has a branch that operates in France. If Yahoo was operating only in the USA the French court could not have done much. You will note that the French (or German) courts have not shut down a large number of Neo-Nazi sites running in the USA. (Though I would love to see them go) Its because the people who run them have no pressense in France or Germany that can be made subject to a local court.
I used to work for DHL (The shipping company) they have a big book that comes out every so often that explains what you can and can not import into each country that they deliver too, over 200.
The Upshot of this is that Slashdot only has to follow laws of the USA and Whichever states (Mi, CA and MA maybe others) that they have offices or staff in. A French court would have a very hard time making a ruling stick agenst Slashdot.
You might also want to look at the web site of the Small Business Administration. (I'm assuming your in the USA, if not your country may have something similar)
In a 30 second look at their page I found a lot of good stuff. Including how to write a Business plan and counseling on various issues etc. Looks like a great resource.
There are a number of books on starting a company. Most will point out things that you would not have thought of on your own. Then write out a plan, try to figure out where it could go wrong. Then talk to an accountant or laywer.
You might want to check out SCORE, its a group of retired executives who mentor people starting up new companies. My grandfather worked for them for years. Here is a link to one of their branches SCORE Delaware (It was the first one that poped up when I did a search).
Well I can tell you people will drive an hour to save 5% sales tax. If you want too see this in action come visit Nashua NH. Land of no sales tax and big malls.
Well you know for some people this kind of file manager does make their life easer. People seem to forget a computer is a tool and should make the life of the user easer not the other way around.
And there are some things that are just easer with a gui type setup. For example if you have a directory with a bunch of files in it and you want to perform an operation on *some* of the files but not a group that can be specified by a simple pattern. To do that with a command line you would have to type the name of each file. (OK you could do it in something like emacs dired mode)
I can see how the desire for a Deli sandwich causes the problems of the world.
And for why we think we are "Superior" you do not begin to understand. The idea that we have more times than you can even count looked the angel of death square in the eye and he blinked first. But the truth is it was the Jews who introduced such ideas a universal education, universal justice and the concept that Governece requires the consent of the governed, even when the governer is the almighty.
So go back under that little anonymous rock you were living under and if you come out again sign your name to your post.
Do you want it because it's Kosher, or because it's good?
Well if its not Kosher I won't eat it, if its not good I don't want to. Hows that for a reason. One of these years I'm going to move out of the boonies to somewhere where I can find a real deli. (I don't like driving almost an hour for food)
But I will admit that this is probably not a money making idea in most area the call for Kosher returants is not that high. But it does not mean that I don't want it.
I hope she makes a lot of money off of this

This woman came up with a very cleaver Idea and is bringing it to market. The perverbial better mousetrap. And even though I have a cell phone for $10 I probably would buy one for cool value.
I wish her well its a very cleaver idea that will probably get used in a lot of ways that no one ever figured on.
Yes they are trying to break that record. At least one of the people trying is a former member of the Golden Knights the US Army's parachute display team. So if She thinks that she can do it I'm tempeted to belive it.
I also read on the AOPA site (www.aopa.org) that someone is trying to get a glider to 100,000 ft.
Why do you say that I have been hopelessly misinformed? The idea that I think trade may actualy benifit people. I like Capitalism and a free and democratic state thank you very much. My family is in the USA because they have to be. The Czar tried to kill my great grandparents for the crime of being Jews, they ran and ended up here.
In the old country (Russia) Jews were at best second class citizens, we got here and someone told us that we could be full citizens of a country, and we have become just that. So yes damn right I want to keep the system the way it is. I'm living in the only country in the world in which there has never been a goverment sponsored Pogrom agenst the Jews.
You seem to think destroying the US and everything that goes with it would be a good thing. Yet I have not heard anyone say how they would like to see things run after such a feat were somehow to be managed. Well you could have no government, I bet the multinationals would love that. All those pesky rules that they have to live by now would be gone. Afterall with no EPA who cares if you dump this sludge in the river.
I'm not being stupid. By makeing copies of someone else work off of the net you are depriving them if income. Call it a Banana if you want it is still wrong.
It is not and has not been the policy of the US government to shoot at kids protesting as happened at Kent State, yes they did do it but it was not ordered by the president or other high up folks. While the Chinese Politburo did order the army to run down the kids at Tianamen square. That is a huge moral difference.
I'm sorry the free publicity argument is bunk. Yes some authors do put their books or parts of them online as publicity, but the issue here is that no one asked Harlan to do it. They just desided to do it. And the library bought the book from the publisher who gives the author a royalty. Harlan does not want his books to be distributed online because he feals (with some justification I should point out) that in doing so he is cutting into his own income.
Wow you got the cops to build a wall, big deal. I don't doubt that you are working for change, I just don't think you have a very good idea of what change you want, specificly or how to acheave it. If you want to end global poverty than you should be encouraging trade, not fighting agenst it.
Again I don't think most of the current actavist movement has a very good sense of where it is going or why.
Very rarely acheaves anything. Much of the protest movement these days is interested in what I have seen refered to as "Scoarched Earth" protesting, which is protesting for the sake of protesting and being a general pain in the ass but without any hope of actualy getting anything done. At the end of the day they have not gotten what they want or even part of what they want they have mostly just been a pain in everyone's neck.
I don't think the so called "Hacktavists" are in any way advancing a cause they are just being political vandals.

Disclaimer IANAL.

Yes it is some sort of a troll.

I'll stick to playing at 5-10,000 ft thanks.

But you are depriving the author of income, and that is theft. Or at least fraud.
