My friend invented a robot just like that, it took time to discern its surroundings and make logical conclusions about them. At which point it abandoned all its data and repeatedly ran into walls.
Hulu is about turning your brain into a rich mush for the benefit of aliens, err, advertisers.
Boxee bypasses much of the advertisement and branding structure, so its not in Hulu's incentive to play nice with Boxee.
Especially since Boxee is just the mac users (10% of the market) and linux (1%).
Boxee doesn't magically block the embedded video ads, it just makes it possible to view Hulu on your TV more easily than hooking up a dedicated tower and instead go with the smaller form factor of an Apple TV.
I oppose this proposed abolishment of all Copyright. Anyone who does should suffer the same fate that I have: die in a drug-induced sex-binge only to come back to life, unable to earn money on songs written 'yesterday' relative to myself.
Furthermore I submit that royalties be amended to include BRAAAAAINS.
Because there's no "value added" by introducing a Value Added Tax.
Why should a business transaction be taxed simply because it happened? Taxes are meant to give the government the bare minimum of income necessary to conduct government business, not to punish people for spending money they received in exchange for their labor.
I agree with you in spirit. But as the recession has shown our economy is built on a foundation of sand. Since Consumption and Government Spending are two large factors driving the economy whenever the Government cuts back it adversely effects the economy; they can't spend forever though that money needs to come from somewhere. Unfortunately people either: 1. Don't want to hear with it, 2. Don't want to deal with it or 3. Want to do something but end up doing nothing because changing the bureaucracy to be more efficient is a ridiculous task. I think we can only expect more of these taxes to become a reality as time goes on.
Personally I would like to know what precisely the definition of "mildly scratched" is because whenever I try using EAC a CD with any tiny nicks on it whatsoever gets errors out the ass. It also refuses to rip an accurate copy unless overread on the first an last track are checked even though half the time last track errors exist but don't affect the rip. Enough bitching about EAC from me, buying CDs used is the way to go if you find a store that has enough stock and a good policy.
Not to mention the support and training of the parents too. If a student works on a document on a Linux box at school and then takes it home to work on they'll be in for a shock. How many families can afford 2 computers, (I for their work and the other for the kids') and how many have the capability to learn to dual boot?
Their rules, if they think others find it offensive then they can suspend your account. However, if it is not explicitly defined in the ToS that sexual orientation in a bio is offensive then she could try and get reimbursed for the account. That is a loooong-shot though.
If they're going to be "pause-able but not skip-able" then they're also going to have to be DRM'ed in some fashion. You couldn't enforce the rule otherwise.
For the DRM I am thinking more along the lines of no restrictions on play-counts, number of copies and what devices it can be played on. I'm aware that there has to be some form of DRM for the embedded unskip-able ads, but it is only to prevent people from removing ads from a free version. If they did it like hulu with 30-60 ads and only 5 per hour show and 3 per half-hour most people would put up with it, and those who didn't would either buy the ad-free ones for $1 or whatever, rip out the ads themselves or download a pre-add-removed version. Which in most cases will be a small number of people who do remove the ads.
Offer them as free and DRM free downloads with embedded video advertising that is pause-able but not skip-able. If it's free and can be played on everything and the advertising is minimal in proportion to the length of the content, then most people would be content with it, and only a small percentage would resort to ripping the ads out. Hell they could even offer a premium edition of the content for $1 a copy. At the same time they could also produce box sets of collectors editions and things that a portion of people like to collect. That will never happen though, content producers/providers are too greedy and shortsighted and so are ISPs.
The video quality really depends on how the show/movie was filmed and your connection.
When I watched Season 3 episodes of Heroes and my connection was at the peak the episodes were streaming HD and they looked good, not as good as over-the-air but nothing too shabby, but when I watched with a medium connection, the quality on the TV went down but was acceptable; not on the computer though very noticeable.
Speaking of caps, any Comcast customers here who have run up against to or close to the ceiling?
I think if two companies are in the same market then one of them will eventually blink by doing actual network upgrades to get customers from the other company. Of course that's assuming they want to make money by doing work and not raising rates.
Depends what format you want the music in though. I am going crazy trying to find used CDs I want at the local Bookmans, luckily there is a good selection at the library so I'm not too screwed.
I hope the people bringing the trials forward have their own family's computer usage scrutinized using the same dubious techniques they will employ during the trial.
I assume "standby" means hibernate, not suspend due to the power required to refresh RAM. Or is Fujitsu introducing something with MRAM?
If it doesn't then there will most likely be a hit to resume standby/hibernate time. Of course some people will never see this 'cause they never turn off their computers.
You only believe that because they told you to. Advertisers fill your head with answers to questions you never asked, then when you are called on to make a decision and you're too lazy to do research or too tired to really think about what you want, you use the answers they gave you as your own.
What! Sears would never do that to me, or the Michelin Man! How dare you besmirch all the defenseless corporations that have to pay for their voice!
They'll be no different from other HDD manufacturers. I recently got a Seagate external because the price and 5-year warranty were a great combo. I hear they are going to lower the warranty period and now these problems; makes me wonder where I will be able to buy reliable drives in the future.
"Wait, come back! We'll put porn on it! Free porn!"
Well I'm sold.
Anyone else find his stories hard to follow or is it just me? Even with his short stories I end up going, "Wait, what?"
My friend invented a robot just like that, it took time to discern its surroundings and make logical conclusions about them. At which point it abandoned all its data and repeatedly ran into walls.
That's what she said. (Going for 2 achievements with 1 post)
Well, I have this brand new product that increases the size of a body part which 95% of men would prefer larger. Perhaps I should inform people of it?
95%? What are the other 5% already swinging meat-picks?

On a side note, I wonder if the EFF is going to retract their statement, or issue some sort of apology...
They already have http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/03/apple-adds-still-more-drm-ipod-shuffle
Something tells me that an obese smoker with asthma and diabetes isn't going to be successfully promiscuous. At least not with others.

And where is Lords of Midnight? And leaving Elite out of that list is like leaving Ms Hilton off anyone's to-do list.
Fixed it for you

Just in case anybody cares, "La Brea" is Spanish for "the Tar," so "The La Brea Tar Pits" translates into "The The Tar Tar Pits."
Don't you mean The Tar the Tar Pits?

I expect to be heinously raped in price by Microsoft for each and every piece of "DLC" that comes out for this game. Someone page me when it's $20.
Is this one of those words that has surreptitiously entered our language like "blog" or was the title just cut-off?
