PJ at http://groklaw.net/ has a comment on the forking. Seems like the fork rumor is due to a misunderstanding. The forking in the talk was about 2.7 being a fork off of 2.6
I think the adds are good. Money is moved from Microsoft to open source. MS legitimate Linux by making large anti-Linux adds. They take the position of an underdog by creeping to an Open source web-site with their adds.
I get a little upset everytime I see the adds, but then I relaxes back and thinks about how the world is moving forward. Now MS comes to Linux-land to try to find a marked!
When they started, they where afraid of effects on the heart. They tested other brain nerves, but got the best effect on the vagal nerve. The implant is done of the left side which has fibres mainly for the stomach. There are examples of rightsided implants without cardiac side effects. VNS seems to be a safe procedure.
The human use 10% of max brain power, 5% of muscle power, 5% of cut capasity or something. It is abnormal to use much of the capasity. If you use high fraction of the brain power, you are probably in status epilepticus which may be deadly. I think the used energy in the brain is very close to optimal.
In Norway nynorsk is an official language. Hence there have been attempts to try to get a Nynorsk version of MS-products. There have been no interest from MS until it came up good open source alternativs and even a special school-linux which supported nynorsk. Then the discussion on the lagality of using MS productions not supporting the official language nynorsk came up and probably made MS change their minds.
I think the integration of information and sequencing of information is central.
In a hospital setting you should be able to see results of blood samples, see the ecg or eeg and even see x-rays directly on screen without to much fiddling around in different applications.
The sequencing side is the possibility to see e.g. blood sugar level through the last 5 years in one screen.
These system do exist, I am not aware of any of them in the US (I live in Europe)

Monopol is the word. Much used.

Oh, I forgot the URL: www.jazzware.com
Nice OSS for making music
They are huge and use Linux. Google must have some TB? Slashdot is at least huge in number of hits/users
