...which is always Madden. I know the quality will be good, and know the gameplay. I bought NFL2k a few years ago, and while good, I still preferred Madden.
At the $20 price point, I will still purchase Madden, but now will ALSO purchase ESPN NFL, to see how I like it. At the $50 price point, I never would have tried this.
Kudos to Sega, for giving me a chance at their game!
I just installed an anti-spam appliance yesterday. So far, over 80% of the Spam that is blocked has come from DSL and Cable lines, presumably from compromised machines.
"It actually disconnects from and reconnects to the AP every minute or two, with predictable results (stutter, even disconnection from the server.)"
You may want to check your hardware. Mine (on 4 different machines, home and work) does not act like this.
"To make things even more fun, it prevents third party configuration tools from working (like linksys' for example, though I believe Intel's will work properly.) There aren't even any usable workarounds."
You can simply uncheck 'Use Windows to configure my Wireless Settings', and third party tools work perfectly fine. As a matter of fact, Im typing this on an 802.11g network, on WinXP, using a Netgear with the Netgear utility, and not XP configuring my settings.
I get the feeling you either have bad hardware, or don't know what you are doing.
Unfortunately, we are married to Exchange 2000, and now MS CRM (which integrates tightly with Active Directory and Exchange), so there is literally a zero percent chance of using something else.
I'm getting REALLY frustrated with Microsoft lately too (activation of every copy of Office 2003, Office license moving nightmares, limitations of Exchange, massive servers needed for it, etc etc etc), but I can't break free....
(disclaimer: I didn't RTFA..., this is more of a rant...)
I used to use shoplink.com back in 2000 or so. I loved it - the food was great, came on time, and I saved money, both on the groceries themselves, and on a distinct lack of 'impulse shopping'. Unfortuneately, they went under a few years ago, and I now live in an area that noone services.
I've seen people in this thread saying to 'keep it to canned goods' etc. Let me tell you - the meats I got were great, along with fresh veggies and fruits, etc. It was a great service.
ZoneAlarm is free for personal use - no subscription, nada. I use it (along with a router based firewall) at home, and it works great. I have it set to ignore, and drop, all unrequested incoming traffic, and ask permission (on a program by program basis) for all outgoing traffice. After about a week of use, hardly anything pops up anymore, unless I install a new app or something.
Not ALL the patches, just the most recent ones since the last time I installed the latest SP, or 'patch frenzy'. There are about 10 pathces on the disc.
I have a ton of more useful things to be doing here, than cleaning up machines because users want to browse non-work related sites at work:
anti-apam software installation upgrade of old NT4 machine to 2000 evaluate and recommend new servers and hardware maintain network resources install WI-FI network document enviornment redesigne previous it guys poor backups deploy Listserver fix and update FTP server and policies install new finance project management server tons, tons, tons more stuff to do
You see, the previous IT administration really screwed the pooch, and Im paying for it now. Being the only IT guy supporting 50+ servers, and over 400 desktop and laptops stretches me REAL THIN.
I use spyware blaster as an addition to Spybot - I install it afterwards. I haven't noticed the Gator issue, but I'll definately take a look at that ASAP.
I do use windows, and have zero choice in the matter. Our software is written primarily for Windows Server, and.NET development doesn't generally work very well on a Linux box.
If I had my choice, Id have Linux deployed alot more in the backend, but I don't have that luxury. The company is WAY to tied into Exchange and MSCRM to go with a Linux solution.
I AM however, putting SpamAssassin on a Linux box to do mail filtering.:)
Im the IT manager for a 100+ person software compandy (actually, the ONLY IT person...)
Over the last 6 months, I've had to spend more and more time cleaning this crap off peoples machines. I've got it down to a science, though - I keep a disk around with a whole lot of useful tools on it such as:
Spybot search and destroy stinger all windows XP / 2000 patches since the latest SP spywareblaster and others
Takes me about 15 minutes to clean a machine now. Of course, that is 15 minutes that I could be doing something USEFUL...
No, actually, not at all. Most programs on your windows pc that are 'installed' into Program Files still have obscure registry entries, and may require dlls and such in the \winnt and \winnt\system32 directories. You cant just remove a progam from the 'Program Files' folder, and have it gone.
1. Start looking for a new job. That type of ranking system just leads to misery
2. Let someone in HR know how you feel, and how you think it will negatively affect the performance of your group as a team. Do this officially, in person.
3. Obtain new job, as HR will ignore you, because it was their crummy idea in the first place.
4. Write well thought out letter, addressed to your boss, CC'ing the HR department head, your department head, and the CFO, letting them know why you are leaving. Won't help you, but may help some of the poor schmucks that are still there.
Jumbo Shrimp!
Why do you say this? Keep in mind, I havent touched Sega since NFL2k, and I'm always willing to give a new football game a try...
thank you, I couldn't have said it any better myself.
Tough to teach the ignorant.

The Star Wars franchise 'jumped the shark' with the Ewoks dancing at the end of EP 6.
*barf*!
I think I'll pass on this one, at least in the theaters.
Man, what a shame to see such a great franchise take such a huge steaming crap...

Have you tried ZoneAlarm? It has this basic functionality.
Here is a list of all the software I keep on the CD:
hijackthis (http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html ). html#cwshredder)
Spybot
Adaware
SpywareGuard (javacoolsoft.com)
SpywareBlaster (javacoolsoft.com)
Stinger Antivirus scanner (mcafee.com)
ie-spyad (http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm)
zonealarm (for personal machines, not corporate ones)
CWShredder (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles
I find the combo of all this software takes care of 99.99% of the spyware/adware/viruses currently making the rounds.
Anything you find particularly useful you'd like to share?
Thanks!

Ok, I'll bite, troll.

But hey, Im only an expert at this.
Interesting, Ive never heard of Mimedefang and ClamAV. I'll have to check into them.
Bingo!
I use spyware blaster as an addition to Spybot - I install it afterwards. I haven't noticed the Gator issue, but I'll definately take a look at that ASAP.
I'll be PISSED if Gator ships with it...
Very good idea - I'll definately try this one ASAP. Just have to find the time to shoehorn it in :)

er, thats supposed to be CEO, not CFO. So much for proofreading.
The CEO may find it interesting as to the reasons behind his engineers leaving....

1. Can't, its a hands-on job.
:)
2. Can't - house prices are out of control in towards the city
3. Working on this one
4. Can't - public transportation doesn't go there.
