I don't really have much to add other than what has already been said. Except, goodbye, and thank you for providing such wonderful insights. I know that I have learned and grown a great deal since I first read Gould at 12 years ago. Thank you for playing a part in my development.
Figured I would post the email that I received from a Blizzard employee in response to the letter I wrote them regarding bnetd
Hello.
Certain programs have been developed that allow users to bypass Battle.net's CD-key-authentication process. Although these programs might have been made with good intentions, they directly promote software piracy by allowing users who have illegitimately obtained our games to play them as if they'd been legitimately purchased. Furthermore, because these programs allow access without a CD key, they render malicious users unaccountable, thereby eliminating Blizzard's ability to protect legitimate consumers. Therefore, Blizzard has taken an aggressive stance opposing the use of these programs.
Please take a moment to read through our FAQ regarding these issues at http://www.battle.net/support/emulationfaq.sht ml if you have any questions or concerns about Blizzard's stance on software piracy.

DISCLAIMER: Please do not take this as an attack:-)
Very interesting opinion. I can definitely see where given recent media events this opinion could be formed.
Question: Can you point to one source that indicates the research is a direct result of pro-lifers?
Just because a lot of the attention has been on controversial research as of late. This in no way indicates that concurrent research was the direct result of this attention or moral disagreements.
Note: After further review I have found one supporter who specifically supports ethical research here
But in an article, located here, it is stated, "Even though Verfaillie is a leading research in adult stem cells, she steadfastly believes the government should also fund research on embryonic research". So even though a few supporters may have altruistic goals, this does not necessarily mean the research is founded on the same principles.
According to this article, Rick Boucher said he, "planned to introduce a bill that would eliminate the "anti-circumvention" clause of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), a 1998 law that updated copyright laws for the digital era."
Please don't slam me for posting nothing but a quote, but that line sums it up pretty well:)
I truly hate to post this, but why is that the highest mod'd topics are funny? I mean how funny is the megahertz=marketing joke? I for one was hoping for a little more of a techie response by readers so that someone, like myself, could come to understand this concept little better, and it seems a little sad, that the most informational reply is only at +2.
I have so far had good luck using qwho.com, on their front page they offer $35 registration for 2 years through namesecure.com .
Namesecure.com was very prompt in their transfer of the DNS to my server and all around had good customer service (they answered their customer service line in only 3 rings)
Namesecure.com offers other services such as email forwarding and the such, but I have not used nor priced these items.

It also has a breakdown of the companies working on this technology as well as their estimation on delivery time.
Oh well
If that is the case the the PS2 should have the same problem
The first day of release I saw PS2 games ripped and ready for downloading...
Repeat?
