As an Ubuntu (and soon also OS X) user, I don't want anyone wasting my time with malware warnings. Don't scan my mail, don't mark links, just let me be.
Colemak has a variant for Windows wherein holding down the space bar flips the keyboard over itself horizontally. It's less than half the speed of one handed typing, but it sure is novel, and great for those times when the other hand is, uh,..busy.
Colemak is the only layout I've ever touch-typed in; qwerty doesn't exactly encourage proper typing form in and of itself. Touch typing, of course, is much, much faster than some mutant hunt-and-peck algorithm, besides being a ton more comfortable.
As a colemak typist, I utilize the difference in keyboard layouts for security. Other people leave my machine alone because they can't use it? Great! It's my own custom Ubuntu version, they'd get confused anyways.
I love Colemak:)..It's great for english, spanish, and japanese. I've hit 111 wpm in colemak twice, though I usually stay around 82. You can find us other users on #colemak on irc.freenode.net
My grandma, mom, and sister use it exclusively, and I don't ever have to mess with it, I just run updates every once in a while. You don't have to go out and find drivers for every little thing, 'cause for the most part, stuff Just Works. It does everything they need it to, it does everything I need it to. It's ready for us.
Ubuntu is far more ready for the desktop than XP, don't know about Vista as I've never used it.
OSX, of course, doesn't have hardware support worth crap.
I bought an Ubuntu Dell, the Inspiron 1420n;
I take it with me fricking EVERYWHERE.
I record full audio of my classes.
I type all my notes.
There's nothing I couldn't do if I wanted to.
The fact of the matter is that there is no way to stop students from doing what they want on them, technically speaking. Give them the laptops ALL THE WAY, and let students report eachother for being distracting during class. Don't block sites, don't block ports, that's all crap too. Kids learn pretty quick what a proxy is.
You've got that a little mixed up.
Dvorak is the mac of keyboard layouts-- second best, a pain in the butt to switch, around as long as anybody can remember, and far more different than necessary.
Colemak: Typing for Human Beings.
WHY is this QWERTY GARBAGE on/. !?
I use colemak so I don't have to deal with qwerty, I don't GIVE A FRICK what the people who do can type with one hand.
This is worse than the 'news' about Windows' problems.
Grarghg, Duke Nukem Forever, sorry.
Duke Nukem 3 has been out for a while I think..
Comment preview needs to be a post-post edit period.. When you just want to post something, how long are you going to look it over for typos you're sure you haven't made?
How do you edit comments here?..hmm.. Evidently not after posting. Which is just like.. you can't. Blast.
7. Secret hidden folders: Just use truecrypt.
You don't think we've tried that?!
This feature literally had me dancing for joy.
I had to look really gay, but it was worth it.
I've been wanting an OS with this feature as long as I can remember, even back when I used windows.

The GIMP, of course.
In other news, Confessed Botnet Victims are Windows Users.

Dvorak still has a Caps Lock key..
When someone beats that, you will agree that Colemak is superior.

I've always said that if Dvorak is the mac of keyboard layouts, Colemak is the Ubuntu. See you on #colemak
Typing is Fun Again.
Apple says 'hi'.

Dvorak should be available; colemak too.

It's really a lot simpler than that. ./configure, make, sudo make me a sandwich

Those resources are better used porting sketchup to linux. You know, after Duke Nukem 3 is out..
