I'd like to offer my ISP 70% of their bill one month and then when they come after me, complain about how they're the "entitled" one like it's a bad thing.
I believe your line of thought requires some realignment. If I'm pay for a service, and I get a lesser service, then I am not getting that service. If I am paying for the lesser service, then fucking say so. Don't set my expectations and then fail to deliver.
I would say that High-tech is what corporations do best, not us. Remember the corporation is only here because it's convenient to them; there's no "Magic Western Civilization Fairy" keeping them here. China could replace us, and all we have to do is sit by waiting for it to happen. We're too busy fighting ourselves over whether specific plants and certain relationships are moral or not. When was the last time you heard someone encourage someone to read a book or try something new? We suffer from major cultural hubris, and that's going to catch up with us quickly.
USA, land of draconian restrictions and propaganda.
Wait, what?
Do you think those Chinese "hackerspaces" are going to be available without strings attached? Do you honestly think they won't be monitored, censored, and otherwise strictly controlled?
Absolutely. I might even be okay with that here, depending upon the nature of the strings. Anything to promote science and engineering again and maybe give the kids something to do outside of watching TV.
Or are you being "ironic" with "satire"? I can't tell. "Irony" and "satire" has been so overused these days, I don't know what the fuck to think anymore.
If they provided a worthwhile service, then demand for that service should increase at the competitors' shops, resulting in growth and expansion there allowing for the majority of those people to get taken in.
Happened with my dad 10 years ago when Mosler went under. ADT ran around and snatched up every last ex-Mosler guy they could.
I never said it was GOOD, but I see your point. It's still really my only major gripe with the interface. I haven't noticed GNOME3 consuming more resources than GNOME2 as others report, and honestly, if I were that concerned about the resources that I'm probably not using to their fullest anyway, I'd probably be using XFCE, or better still, nothing at all.
You rightclick the terminal window icon and choose "Open another instance" or something worded similarly. It's not obvious, but it's there. Really no less confusing than the OSX way of managing windows.
So pretty much all I use a GUI for is having multiple terminal windows open at once and being able to have access to a non-masochistic web browser. For this, I need a clean and lightweight UI. GNOME 3 works just fine in that regard. Other than "because it's different", why does everyone hate it?
He's stating facts. He's stating his preferences for the purposes of planning getting him somewhere to talk. I couldn't be annoyed about that if I wanted to, because it's fact. That's how the guy is. Saying that I'm even annoyed is somewhat of a stretch, because I'm not. All I'm saying is that he's not just saying "A, B, and C" because he has long rants injected between each one. I'm simply pointing out the very thing that you're arguing that he's not doing is the very thing that he is. He rambles needlessly like my grandfather would.
The problem isn't really the 'demands'. At least, not for me. It's the ranty unnecessary amounts of detail. The guy doesn't seem arrogant, necessarily. I mean, he'd rather just bum in on the couch for fuck's sake. He just seems like he has a disturbingly small grip on reality. I didn't need a paragraph on how awesome parrots were. "I like birds, but don't get one on my account, because I don't want you to be responsible for taking care of him for the rest of your life hours later when I leave." Simple.
In some places, my hosts act as if my every wish were their command.
By catering to my every whim, in effect they make me a tyrant over
them, which is not a role I like. I start to worry that I might
subject them to great burdens without even realizing.
You'd have to have something like that. I guess the age old method is just to limit it by cost through taxes. Of course, that has the appalling effect of ensuring that only the rich can do it, but then again, you don't see the guy making minimum wage at Jack-In-The-Box driving a hot rod, at least, not unless he's selling drugs on the side.

Someone would scream terrorism.

Frankly, I can't even tell, and I wrote it. :(

1 point for first two paragraphs. -1 for incomprehensible third one.
Shit, I actually got first post. I guess I get downmodded now, right? :(
But Microsoft withdrew it a year ago.

I think your signature actually just popped a couple of blood vessels in my brain. I just felt you should know.

I think there's an explanation here: http://idle.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=2498572&cid=37869564

Ironic?
You would use... no, nevermind. My head hurts too much already.
I think your keyboard is broken.
Are 'playing by the rules' and 'gaming the system' mutually exclusive? I never thought so.
Besides, just because you operate within the letter of the law doesn't mean that you can't be a cocksucker about it the whole time.
I have a suitcase that is at least 30 years old. It has two knobs on either side of it. You slide them and, surprise surprise, the briefcase unlocks.
We gotta end this "different cause it's on a computer" bullshit.
Damn, beat me to it. Even so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slinky
Jesus. Hell of a post to follow from my not-as-witty-as-I'd-like-to-pretend-I-am comment. Good read though.

Always loved that story.
