All major laws cannot be enacted in Thailand without the explicit approval of the King. You can verify this by reading the 2007 Constitution. Publicly, Thai royalty has no influence on the laws. But you'll see otherwise if you read wikileaks.

The pardoning is only for those who have less than 3 years left of their sentence, and only once a year. Those accused of Lese Majeste typically have 5 to 20 year sentences. You're likely to spend several years in prison before being asked to sign a statement that you love the king before you can be released.

  6. Re:Of course it does on Ron Paul Wants To End the Federal Student Loan Program · · Score: 1

I agree that the government loans are inflating the cost of education. The supply (number of universities) is staying the same, while the demand (people who can afford university) is going up. Markets will naturally raise prices to cope - it's effectively a subsidy that profits the university. This is effectively the same argument concerning health insurance, a subsidy inflating medical costs.

But on the other hand, I probably couldn't have afforded my education if I didn't have federal loans to help . . .

There might be another solution, such as using the loan money to instead increase the number of universities - ie increase the supply.

I, and many others I know in a forum I frequent, won't upgrade to SP3 as it breaks USB. It's a known bug (for many years) that USB becomes significantly slower in SP3 (it's not known what hardware configurations can avoid the bug). This causes problems with data transfer speeds.
