  1. News for Nerds... Seed... Monoculture... on The Software Monoculture · · Score: 2, Funny

"Seeds of Destruction" sounds like a typical aspect of nerd monoculture allright.

  2. Re:What an ass on Alan Ralsky Gripes About Can Spam Act · · Score: 3, Insightful

He doesn't seem to realize or care that what he's doing is wrong.

No, of course not. Someone like Ralsky is most likely a sociopath (Antisocial Personality Disorder). He can't grasp the concept of responsibility for his actions.

Best to throw him in a dungeon and never let him out again, IMNSHO...

It's ok, I've heard all Astronauts will be equiped with a hot cocoa sampler box.

Uhuh, and bikini and sunglasses. Seems they can fit comfy lawn chairs in the cockpit, too...

  5. Yeah, bright idea on Shuttle Fleet Upgraded · · Score: 5, Funny

I wonder if heating up a tank with liquid oxygen is a bright idea.

    Yes, it is. Very bright.

  6. Dragon antibiotics... on Researchers: Wolves Might Slow Spread of CWD · · Score: 1

They have isolated multiple anti-bacterial compounds and hopefully they will be able to make incredibly powerful new antibiotics available in a few years.

Yeah, but some incredibly powerful antibiotic that a Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) can handle may be quite deadly to us humans... Komodo dragons aren't all that closely related to us, you know (for one, they're cold-blooded).

  7. They knew about the storm? on Beagle 2 Probe Lands; No Signal Received Yet · · Score: 1

If you know about the storm, then I suppose the Beagle 2 team knew about it too. Then why didn't they postpone the descent? Did it just have to land on Xmas? Or did the bad weather start after separation, a few days ago...

I couldn't find anything about current weather conditions, or something like a narrow 'landing window' (which might be a reason to press on) on the beagle2 site. Just that they followed some predetermined schedule. Not such a good idea, maybe?

  8. That's nothing on Strained Silicon Chips From Intel · · Score: 2, Funny

Microsoft has been stressing silicon, including Intel's, for many years!

  9. Intel may be right on Strained Silicon Chips From Intel · · Score: 2, Interesting

Intel may be right on this one - they always have been conservative and this worked out very well for them. Large companies often wait for smaller companies to take the risk and prove or disprove the viablity of new tech. Nobody knows how well diamond is going to work out!

    Remember GaAs?

  11. Wonder why it flopped? on Open eBook Forum Courts Controversy Over Formats · · Score: 4, Insightful

Largely because of the proprietary format wars, ebooks have flopped commercially, with only an estimated ten million dollars in sales in 2003.

Or maybe, just maybe, people prefer real books? Maybe the market just isn't there right now.

Maybe you could have a little chat with someone in management, trying to make them aware of what happened? Preferably, present it in such a way that they will 'discover themselves' what happened. Just guide them along.

Of course, there must be someone you can talk to. Some PHBs are just too dense, I know :-(.

    Good luck there.
