Just to expand on this Galileo's hypothesis basically gets every observable fact about tides wrong(besides the fact there are tides) which probably explains why people didn't believe him. (Lets see if I remember right if you apply it you'd figure there's 1 tide a day, it's at the same time every day, and it's the same height.)
What's worse is arguably one person he called Mr. Stupid (aka Simplicio) was his college buddy that encouraged him to get published. You may know him as the Pope. (Yes, G man was actually buddies with the Pope.)
I really need to double check because I could swear I even see this when I put my sarcasm tags around things.( IE I sometimes put (sarcasm) (/sarcasm) around stuff to make it clearer.) Also my understanding of the moderating directives is to try to moderate up and be really sure before you mod down but my experience here has been a lot of mods don't get that. (Or never bothered to read the suggestions. Oh wait, Slashdot people don't read the articles before commenting so I guess it's to be expected mods wouldn't read the moderating instructions. And no, I'm not being sarcastic this time.)
Well you have to remember 30 years ago we watched less TV than now.(Yes, I'm old enough to remember how much TV I watched in the late 70-80's.) Not only are there more TV's in my house now than 30 years ago(when I was a kid) they're on a lot more so the end result is more electricity usage in my house on TV's than 30 years ago.
Since engineers have always worked on efficiency so pretty much everything you use these days is more efficient that the equivalent item from 30 years ago. However people in the US use more energy per capita than they did 30 years ago.(So for example instead of 4 people in a family watching the same 25" TV during prime time each one of them has their own and or they watch it more. End result is the amount of energy used to watch TV is greater even though the actual TV uses less power.)
The thing is we're not talking about below par students. We're talking about students with say a 30 MCAT and 3.7 not getting it because they don't have 5 or 6 extra curricular or not wanting an older student because he'll practice for 10 years less. (IE these people would still probably make good doctors and would still graduate. Maybe not the 90+% they have now but more than enough to make it worth it.)
Since given all the hoops you have to jump through to get in they apparently believe there is a huge doctor glut. (You know, a 30+ on the MCAT a 3.9+ on your premed coursework and loads of extracurricular activities.)
If they raid your house they can just confiscate your stuff and basically claim "Well I'm not finding you guilty but I can find your possessions guilty and therefore I can just take it since property doesn't have rights." (IE They can just claim "This stuff was involved with drugs therefore it's totally legal for me to take it without due process." (How this shit isn't against the 8th amendment is beyond me. IE The maximum penalty for someone who has not been convicted of anything should be $0.)
All you needed to do was watch the coverage when they were trying to get the other Boston Marathon bomber. As far as I could tell they literally had thousands of these basically soldiers running around which was surreal to me given that they were trying to catch one guy.(Who had some homemade bombs and a pistol.) I think I saw FBI, CIA, ATF, plus Watertown, Cambridge, and Boston police soldiers. I mentioned to my brother if anything this would only encourage more terrorism since basically 2 guys for probably well under a $1000 shut down at least 3 cities and probably induced a cost in the several hundreds of millions. Oh and the worst part, they didn't even catch the guy. BTW should I mention even libertarian with conservative leaning sites like instapundit think this is horseshit?
First take a beef patty and grill it over a charcoal or propane grill for 8 minutes, 4 on each side. While doing that toast a hamburger bun. Rest the patty for a minute, put on the bun and dress with some ketchup, mustard, a few pickles and some cheese.(Lettuce, onion, and tomatoes are optional.) Then take the broccoli and throw it to the rabbits in your backyard so you'll have some cute bunnies to watch while you eat your burger. (Oh, a don't forget to have a beer or coke while you're enjoying that perfect broccoli.)
put on his machine. I say this because my work machine takes around 5 minutes to boot into Windows 7 and when it runs it constantly hammers the hard drive. Unfortunately they have us install slow ass anti-virus(IE not Avast), log into the domain and some help desk program.(Which is especially worthless since if something needs fixing on my machine I end up fixing it anyway.) I wonder if Linux works better simply because there's less garbage on it.
We live in a country where it can be illegal to dig a hole or pickup a feather off the ground.(Depending on the circumstances and yes really.) As this video points out

NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE. There's so many laws a prosecutor can find anything if he feels like it. Hell, even the cop in that video says you should never talk to him. To put a bigger point on it even in the video they give a quote from Robert Jackson(prosecutor at the Nuremburg trials) who said "...any lawyer worth his salt will tell the suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to the police under any circumstances."
Is that if you are working on something important you don't have to worry about somebody walking over to your desk and interrupting you. (Which gets more annoying when you realize this was explicitly discussed in the stand-up but the person couldn't be bothered to pay attention.)
I mean the NYT telling Dr. Goddard how he didn't know shit about physics. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Goddard_(scientist)#The_New_York_Times_editorial

Which at least in my case pretty much is "Hi, I'm a moderator that doesn't get sarcasm or humor." (Hence my sig.)
Each time I swear it was an Aztec chant out of the Necronomicon to raise the evil dead. (And I'm only being partial sarcastic when I say that.)

Now French, there was a course that was basically impossible.(Especially French 4 in college with those made up tenses.)
Modded me down? What? Too soon or too Democrat?
Here's the real headline "Dems find Ted Kennedy's legendary secret stash of booze, get totally plastered."

which will sound a bit familiar IOKWMSDI It's OK when my side does it.
Go out in your yard. Pick up a feather. Is that feather from a hawk? Congrats you just committed a crime http://www.blm.gov/id/st/en/prog/blm_special_areas/birds_of_prey_nca/links/raptor_possession.html http://www.gpnc.org/raptors1.htm
The part that bugged me was it was more expensive, less powerful, and had loads a features I didn't care about. (Like Kinect.)
Oh wait, it was on sale at $550 with lifetime service and I upgraded it to 2tb for an additional $100. Guess I can't be that upset.

Oh, the article is about research on chimps, not by chimps. Guess I should have read it first.
is "That's nice but why are you hollowing out the mountain?"
