ALSO : You do have options. For example VirginMobile charges me a mere $5 a month for 30 minutes calltime. That's plenty for me, especially since the minutes rollover. I now have about 10 hours racked-up. There are other similar "pay as you go" services.
Link? I can't seem to find any info on this. Are you grandfathered in on something for this rate?
How much time does the average worker spend on personal things while at work? Checking personal email, personal phone calls, surfing the web and playing games during non-break time? They may not consume 20 hours of work time doing these things, but they are being done.
Maybe you won't have to bring your work home with you if you do your work while at work.
Dude, WTF? It's crap like this that require more and more control over the internet. The free and/or easy dissemination of information is going to end up ruining the profit margins of our OverLoard Coporations.
This shit has to stop NOW! We can't have the masses know just how much they're getting taken for.
The Pentagon is using them to develop military projects like this. This is what the frigging Military Industrial Complex and DARPA are for. Leave NASA and they're limited and continuously dwindling funds for space research, or we're going to be left in the dust by China, India and the other space faring nations.
Note: If this and projects like it are funded separately and outside of NASAs budget, then, never mind. Carry on...
You people think this is funny? This is EXACTLY how our political system works. It's perfectly legal for corporations to bribe our lawmakers to make decisions favorable to them, it's just called lobbying. Let Joe Shmoe try giving $200.00 to influence his representatives decision and see where he ends up.
Actually, I think music one of the few good uses for this so called cloud thing. One easy to connect to location for my desktop, laptop, tablet, cell and automobile to connect to my music library is a good thing. No need to worry about keeping things in sync or forgetting to transfer that new song you like over to the device you have on hand at the moment. But like anything, if you keep your one and only copy in there, you get what you deserve.
There is no way Steam, which is a "App store" for games, will have any effect for anyone other than gamers. There is no way every distro in existence now or in the future will require Steam in order to install an application and be a productive system. Hell, they can't even agree on a standard packaging system as it is now, and you expect, just because a gaming "App store" decides to port itself and a bunch of game over, Linux will suddenly become a proprietary, closed source, non-free system, unable to be productive without the Steam store?
There may be a distro or two locked into Steam and it's marketing method, but Linux in general will survive and be free. One way or another, there will be at least one (Debian?) free and open distribution out there. If not, again, you can always roll your own.
It doesn't matter how Valve changes their TOS, Linux will always be free and open source, and there will always be productive applications for it.
Of course, our sun COULD go supernova tomorrow, and all this worry about Steam corrupting OSS beyond repair will be moot. That, by the way, is far more likely than Steam having the effect on the freedom of Linux and OSS software mentioned above.
Just how do App stores pose any danger to Linux? Linux is GPL, and will always be GPL. There is no way anyone will be forced to use an App store ONLY enabled distro in the near or distant future.
If you or RMS even think Steam on Linux will magically turn Linux into a proprietary locked down operating system, or even has the capability to do so, you have no idea at all how the system works. There is nothing short of outlawing Linux that will do that, and even then it'll be an underground OS, so that really won't work.
Don't like what Steam is doing to Linux? Don't install it, and guess what? You're running the same damn thing I am, just without Steam installed. Or run a distro that doesn't support Steam, or build your own from scratch. THAT is the power of Linux. CHOICE.
BUT: "application is a continuation of U.S. application Ser. No. 09/478,009, filed on Jan. 5, 2000 now U.S. Pat. No. 6,847,959"
THIS is fucking bullshit! How the hell can it be anywhere near legal to "invent" something after someone else has then tag it onto an existing patent and claim you "invented" it first?
We could always go back to telling stories by fireside. That might not be such a bad thing.
Too bad those stories are copyrighted and little Jimmy over there has been brainwashed by Big Media to "report all suspicious activity concerning media" to the Law Enforcement division of MegaCorpMedia, a division of MegaCorpOwnsEverythingSoFuckYouAndGiveMeMYMoneyBack.
Don't know who the dumb fuck was going through modding all these posts down, but (s)he needs to have their head smacked.
This is what I was going to suggest. Using sl4a allows the use of Python, Perl, JRuby, Lua, BeanShell, JavaScript, Tcl, and shell. That pretty much covers all the good scripting languages except Rexx, and I haven't heard much about Rexx in years.
Of course, if you stop and think about it, Android's entire API is a scripting language, so...
I have an original Motorola Droid sitting in a drawer I'm thinking of re purposing into a smart thermostat. It's going to need a helper and the Pi is way overkill for that. I'll probibly use an Aduino, which is still way overkill, or roll my own interface with a U421 and let the droid do all the processing if I can get them talking to each other.
There's more to it than just that, otherwise why all the other languages? Sure, C is cross platform, but so is Cobol, Fortran, Pascal, etc...
Todays apps need more than just the base language, they also need graphics libraries such as OpenGL or even X. I've never understood why, especially on a smart phone where resources are at a premium, anyone would go with an interpreted language. It shouldn't matter that there are different processors for the same OS, let the app store figure out which binary to send to the damn thing and use a compiled language. Hell, the app store can even compile the thing for the different platforms as well.
We have long been at the point where OS and processor should be irrelevant, most especially OS. There is no reason, other than greed, that anyone should be tied to Windows, OSX, or Linux given todays technology. An application for one should be no more than a recompile away from the other.
Why does WORA have to be a scripting type language? How about a WORA complied language? I see no problem with having to recompile an application for different platforms. The gaming industry should've done this years ago for cross-platform games. One language, write once run anywhere with a simple recompile. I know it's been tried in the past and screwed up by (usually MS) someone wanting their own standard to be THE standard, but come on people, this is the 21st frigging century. It's well within our technological capabilities, and has been for quite some years. Every frigging aspect of everything in existence doesn't have to be monetized out of usefulness.
That was the whole point. We're broke, and still spending money on our war machine, living in fear, thanks to the media, and well on our way to becoming a police state. The 9/11 attack was damn near 100% successful, and if we keep on our current track, it won't be long before it's at 100%. It doesn't matter if we destroy the perpetrators of the attack if they're goal is achieved, we still loose.
Freedom actually means you can go build your own device.
And that ain't free.
Sure it is. Just because you have to pay for parts, doesn't mean you aren't free to build your own. Freedom doesn't mean you get everything you want for free, it just means you're free to copy/implement them for personal use.
I'm not sure, but I don't think they can get you for copyright or patent infringement if you build it for personal use.
This is like saying to someone from a different region than you, I'm not going to listen to what you have to say, no matter how relevant or true, because you don't know how to pronounce the words correctly.
I'm not writing a dissertation or article here, so won't spend an great deal of time proofreading it. You know what I'm saying even though there may be a misspelled word here and there.
Read it, or don't. Makes no fuck to me. Just don't proofread it and tell me what I did wrong unless I ask. Save that for my teachers, professors and/or publisher.
This is because people think they know computers because they can make their way around a "pointy-clicky" interface and know how to google things. High School graduation and/or collage enrolment day comes around and they say to themselves, "Hey, I bet I could make a mint in computer science. I think I'll major in that." They then, proceed to "google" and cheat their way though the classes, not really understanding what they're being taught.
Computer science, like all the sciences, is not something you can learn on a whim just because you want to. In order to be proficient at it, you need the skills to do so, and those are not something you can learn, they are built up with years of practice and experience. By the time collage rolls around, you either have them or you don't. It's too late to acquire them now. You can, however, put off collage and spend the next five to ten years acquiring them, then get your CS degree and be good at your job. Or, you know, choose a major you have the skills for.
The Klingon species is a warier species. While I highly doubt a species that warlike would survive long enough to advance that far, war and battle is part of who they are, it is not "stereotyping" them. 99.9% of interactions shown with a Klingon are with one from the military or Warier Class, so even if they weren't so aggressive as a whole, you'd not see it anyway.
Not to mention it's a made up fucking species that was written to be aggressive. Saying you wish they wouldn't stereotype them as violent is like saying you wish the media wouldn't stereotype cars as squarish boxes with windows and tires.
How many acres of wheat do you need to keep yourself in flour for the year? I understand there's summer wheat and winter wheat, so I assume you harvest more than once per year?
Just out of curiosity. I'm primal, so don't eat grains. Of course, before making the switch I baked my own bread. I'd easily go through 5lbs of flour or more a month just for myself.
It would be cheaper to run conduit with copper now, and upgrade to fiber if/when it becomes feasible and affordable, then to run both copper and fiber now.
A consumer-grade OS should be designed assume the person using it is going to be admin. That's what people want.
That's also one of the main reasons virus and malware are so prevalent. A user, no matter if he's the only one using that computer, and especially if he isn't, should not be running with admin privileges. Nor should it be a simple click of an 'OK' or 'Accept' button to gain those privileges. It's too easy to just click on through. If something I'm doing requires admin rights, I have to type in my admin password to give it those rights. It makes me think, and if the password dialog pops up and I didn't initiate something that needed it, I can't just blindly click 'Accept' without even knowing what's going on.
Company's should figure out a way to safely give it to them.
Employees using a workstation for work do not need admin privileges under ANY circumstances. If something needs installing or fixing, call IT.
ALSO : You do have options. For example VirginMobile charges me a mere $5 a month for 30 minutes calltime. That's plenty for me, especially since the minutes rollover. I now have about 10 hours racked-up. There are other similar "pay as you go" services.

As are you, me, and every other human walking on or orbiting above this planet. You, however, have a "Dumb-Ass" prefix.

Yeah, that kinda makes sense. If winter wheat were grown in the winter, I guess I'd see every field around me filled with wheat over the winter.
