Just label all products which are or derive from (in any way) GM plants with a big clear label and let the consumer decide it.
Given the choice between GM-including and GM-free products i will choose the later. Believers that GM stuff is safer can choose the GM-including products.
Then again, since this is not in the best interest of the Genetics companies, and i long ago stoped believing that legislation was done in the best interest of the majority of people (the consumers), i doubt this will ever happen...
... develop and use weapons to serve it's own best interest (or at least the best interest of the ones in the right places or with the right influences) both inside and outside de US territory.
And the best thing is: Everybody else is doing exactly the same
It's just a fact of life!!!

Now WHAT REALLY GETS ON MY NERVES is all those self-righteous (US; non-US; martians; i don't care) that come around saying
Oh, we're all goody-goody and our weapons are only for show so that all those mean foreign baddies don't do us any harm...
Please... either you're a fool or you think everybody else is a fool

After all, the guy isn't answering anybody's questions, 1984-2001 is a long time (at least 170 Internet years) and the ones currently selling namespaces in the.au domain are the Melbourne University...
<CONSPIRACY_THEORY>Maybe the guy died and the Melbourne University has covered it up to keep selling.au domains</CONSPIRACY_THEORY>
Start digging up the Univerity's Campus, there must be a corpse in there somewhere...
Well first of all you have to get yourself a black chicken. This is essencial so bare with me.
Next you get yourself a dry toad leg...
... plus a picture of Bill Gates.
Next you go out to the countryside in a full moon, friday night and find yourself an apple tree.
Now you open a little whole in the ground, under the tree and place the picture of Bill Gates in there.
Next you beat the chicken to death using the dry toad leg (in know it's difficult, but this is the only way)
Sprinkle the picture with the blood of the dead chicken and recite 666 times (i know it's a lot, but it's the number of The Beast) - "Until the ocean turns to dust of VB i will be free"
You can now safelly turn to other programming languages
I'm here to defend Microsoft against all the traditional bashing and slashing against Microsoft that happens here on Slashdot.
People don't realise this, but Microsoft is a wonderfull company. For example:
Their products are designed to give the consumer the freedom to work in a wide range of enviroments - Windows95, Windows98, WindowsME, WindowsNT, Windows2000, WindowsXP
The quality of their software is excelent - DOS is very stable
Their prices are highly afordable - Windows 3.1 prices are at an all time low
In this specific case, i think putting in IE the ability to transform any work in an HTML page into a link to a Microsoft site is a way of empowering the User by allowing him/her to for example click in the name of a brand and be sent to a Microsoft endorsed site full with articles to buy and "super special promotions" and "unbiased consumer information".
To everybody out there i say:
Please think twice before bashing Microsoft again!!!
You kinda forgot the small detail that the retina doesn't have a 16"x12" area.
The maximum resolution of the human eye has no relation to the size of the viewed object, but instead is related to the size of the retina (where the image of what a person sees is projected and transformed into nervous impulses).
Now, if you get close enough to the monitor so that the distance between it and your eye is the same as the distance between the front of your eye and your retina (about 1")? then you have a 1:1 relation and you can apply that rule. On the other hand, even if you could focus your eye such a short distance, having a 16"x12" display would still be incredibly useless...
I leave at six and nobody looks funny at me - then again there aren't that many people left in the building at six (i come in late and leave late).
I don't get the same salary as i would in the US (maybe 2/3). On they other hand, my hourly salary end up pretty much the same as if i was in the US working 12h/day.
<DISCLAIMER>I am not a Dutch citizen, and to be one i would have to stick around for 4 more years</DISCLAIMER>
Choices in companies are driven by the almighty buck. In this context, the guy has to choose (and justify that choice) between:
The (undefined) ammount of money lost because of the (undefined) number of people that left the company earlier than expected because of the (undefined) decrease/lack-of-increase of happyness due to not having DVD players and 3d boards
The cost of X DVD players and X 3D boards
Saving/gaining money tends to be chosen instead of non-measurable things like employee satisfaction.

Unfortunatly most managers tend to think in the tactical sense (immediatly justifyable actions) instead of the strategic sense (looking at the bigger picture)
... which happens to be a company that sells machines which can be used in Data Mining all that juicy costumer information.
The more info about costumers is available the more and bigger machines are needed to mine it.
Plus: It is believed by some that to be sucessfull as an e-business (or an m-business) companies need provide personalized services to costumers. The more information a company has, the more targeted can be the services.
Who do you think wants to sell machines to run all those Costumer Relationship Management programs?
... it's quite easy to find employement in Holland (in IT and also in other areas), even if you don't speak a word of Dutch.
I moved to Holland a year ago (from another EU country) and it was really easy.
Although i'm not currently looking for any new job, i keep getting work proposals (and this in a downturn/recession in IT) so i guess there is no lack of work in IT around here.
There are at least 3 americans working in my company currently (which will remain nameless), out of about 80 people, and this is a Dutch company.
Strangely enough it's easier to find IT positions in Holland by using international placement agencies/web sites than it is by using the local ones (maybe because the local ones are all in Dutch). I would recommend:

You can use this stuff today, without being seen, if you just put it inside a helmet.
I guess my 500Hz brain cannot cope with the concept of 1GHz processors ...

- Put a label on it saying "Linux"
- Put some C4 inside and connected it to a big red button saying "Start Button"

As for the "medicinal stuff" ... well, as long as you don't go around "medicating yourself" while at work, nobody really cares about what you do!!!
