I've noticed a dangerous trend, far beyond this... heck, people seem to think they can learn any skill just from YouTube videos, not just simulators.
(Now some skills, you can - e.g. HTML, PHP, whittling a moose from a block of wood, etc. Or some people can, anyway. I wouldn't want to take the chance on "piloting an aircraft", though.)
not so great for foods that need to be picked and chosen, like fruits/veggies/meats/fish.
In practice, I bet it is better than you think.
The in store system is that you pick out your own, so you are essentially responsible if you pick out crap. (Or at least you'd feel that way - what, are you going to say "I want to return this ratty lettuce that I, uh, just picked out myself.")
But if they deliver it to you, then they are responsible for delivering crap to you.
My guess is you would get at least decent and probably pretty good stuff, and the comments from those who have tried grocery delivery seem to bear that out.
and no one talks about what is really needed in the US: the government as the only buyer of drugs. If drugs are such that there is only one supplier, with patent protections that give a monopoly on production, there should be a single buyer, that would negotiate an acceptable price, and then this buyer sells to all pharmacies at cost, which leads to an equitable distribution.
Because that works so well at cost reduction for other things the government is the sole buyer of, like military equipment?
Solutions: better collision avoidance (autobrake) tech on cars, and better driver training. And don't be so cowardly -- it's still safer than a bicycle or motor-scooter. Driving need not be an arms race, unless you want suburbanite hausfraus getting Unimogs because OMG, an 18-wheeler might hit you and think about the cheeeeeeldren.
Now I don't know much about hearing aids -- but then this is/. I can have a strong opinion anyway -- but why aren't hearing aids already standard bluetooth audio devices? I imagine it's not *quite* that simple, but it seems bizarre to me that this is even needed, we've had a protocol for transmitting sound data between devices for ages. It's pretty disappointing that this is even necessary. Can someone with more experience expand on this?
Many are already equipped to function that way over Bluetooth, so I too am puzzled that there is a need for a new standard.
... where Google secretly hires thousands of (conveniently also cheaper) Chinese programmers to substitute those indignant first-world employees who intend to obstruct the profit maximization process. It's not like any larger corporation would be willing to put morale before profits, you know...
Gonna be interesting though. The tension between the supposed commitment to sunshine and puppies vs. their desire for all that Chinese cash.
They are gonna learn that going all SJW with their work force ain't so great when management decisions turn out to be on the wrong side of things... pitchforks and torches can be hard to control.
(And I say that as someone who detests Chinese communism and all it represents.)
Who will be along promptly to excuse this with some spurious claims. It never ceases to amaze me how some people are prepared cooperate in their own oppression. They are no different to the victims of domestic violence that continuously return to their abuser.
Queue people who disagree with me... they of course cannot have any valid thoughts by definition (c'mon, they disagree with me - with me!); they must be idiots or victims of brainwashing.
Here we go... nobody understanding differential pay...
What's funny is that nobody seems to mind that we pay absurd multiples of normal wages to people for merely looking good on camera, or their ability to move a ball down a field.
In fact, some of those same athletes and actors then have the chutzpah to lecture us about "income inequality" and those darn wascally wepubwicans.
>> spate of armed robberies
The goon was armed. Telling people he would kill them for a little money. Find him (or her), melt down his gun and toss him in the woodchipper - improve the world!
That's what us mean old white guys have been saying forever (although a tall tree and a rope is less messy)...
We got mostly overruled though; we have to first figure out what the root causes and inequalities and so forth were that motivated this armed goon. Then and only then might we decide if he can even have a short stay at the graybar hotel.
For example, male and female are a biological reality, yet there is a large anti-science political and social movement which teaches that they are just fluid social constructs. What do you do about that? It is perplexing.
Intersex is also a biological reality, and comes in many different forms, but I guess since that doesn't fit your worldview it must be "Fake News".
True ambiguous genitalia is both extremely rare, and not what I'm talking about. But then, you know that.
So what do you do when it's a basic principal of American government to include public input and steering, but such a large proportion of the public is so literally wrong about their understanding of facts that they choose to install their own reality?
I'm not sure.

It's more like 25% of the population considers one news fake, another 25% considers the opposite news to be fake. Those of us in the middle 50% find all the shenanigans by those on the two extremes to be exasperating, and would be happy to see both their conspiracy theories banned as fake.
Let me see if I can walk you though this... what if something that you think of as "middle" and "true" gets banned as supposedly being "fake"?

Surgery just to start a job (and surgery again when you leave the job?) seems a bit extreme.
which means that roughly 80 of the company's now 250 employees, or nearly a third, are walking, talking cyborgs.
Wha? If this makes you a "cyborg", then a cochlear implant must make you The freakin' Borg ...
Any solution will be technological; it will not be ham fisted attempts to force stone age living on the hoi polloi.
(Notice that the elites like Al Gore never do the stone age living thing anyway. That's for you plebes.)

Ah yes, mockery, the universal persuasion tool.
You have a fine future in marketing!

until a raid on his family home uncovered a litany of hacking files and instructions all saved in a folder titled "hacky hack hack."

Meanwhile, it would have been nice to have another truly different browser added to the world, instead of another Chrome clone.
Oh, here we go ... Obama is apparently like an ancient Persian king; one cannot not simply reverse his dictates!
If mere money had the political power that we attribute to it, we'd be discussing the legacy of President Forbes.
Same as saying "children regurgitate what they are taught".
What's funny is they now get most of their anti-"capitalist" messages via giant corps (Google, Facebook, etc.)
Even the US is a tad third-world-ish nowadays.
Parts of it are; especially the parts we insist on importing from the third world. Which amazes nobody except the enthusiastic importers.

You can't really win when 50% of the population considers one news fake, and the other 50% considers the opposite news to be fake...
Maybe just let people read different news sources and decide.
What??? Allow people freedom?!?
Your "freedom" is just a tool of white male oppression! We need the white male tech executives to save us from all that!
Howabout teaching critical thinking skills at every grade level.
We're forbidden now to teach at any grade level how to tell boys and girls apart.
So I think we have a ways to go before we even consider getting back to "critical thinking" ...
"Cortana, bitch slap Alexa ..."
One way or another, it will be technological solutions that solve this, not ham fisted and highly selective demonization of modernity.
