What I wonder is how they located the access points while driving around... Could it be GPS?

This is an "Alterative" ad based weekly paper here in Seattle. In my opinion, it's journalistic integrity is slightly above the Weekly World News and roughly that of the Readers Digest.

Not to say they haven't been right in the past, but their slant is a far left leaning urban newspaper. I imagine their evidence is pretty much Microsoft withdrawing support and a pastor claiming credit.

this is the beginnings of death rattle of a sub standard ISP, regardless how big they are. Not like they have ever had any respect for RFCs.

Ironically, blocking incoming mail from AOL will likely do more for blocking spam than their action ever will.

  6. Software piracy on California EULA Lawsuit · · Score: 1

I can only assume that their no-return policy is an attempt to keep people from buying software, installing or burning a copy, then returning the software for some contrived reason.

Of course this doesn't leave you with any options for refusing a license for purchased software.

They have this idea of how the world should be. Then they grab onto any sort of (pseudo)scientific flotsam that wanders by that supports their idea. Any evidence to the contrary is a conspiracy to oppress us, rape the land or make us write bad checks. And from this viewpoint they have the high moral ground to act in any extreme fashion that they deem necessary.

I for one would love to see a bit more "leading with your head, not your heart" in the world today.

Well a "back of the napkin" calculation gives you 0.07% of the earth's surface, if they run close to 100% efficiency. Unfortunately thermodynamics won't let you get anywhere near that.

The first films were an exercise in escapist cinema. They took you to someplace new and offered a "feel good" story that was reachable by all. Lucas seems to be out of touch with why the trilogy was so great in the first place.

I hope the next film isn't an unholy cross of Toys-R-Us, bad Star Trek pseudo science and Max Headroom like the last one was.

  12. Re:Are the 15-bit colors really not a subset of 24 on Destroying The Myth Of The Web-Safe Palette · · Score: 1
If your video card has a 5bit DAC for red/blue, a 6bit DAC for green and an 8bit DAC for indexed color and True color then this would be true.

Most (all?) video cards only have 8 bit DACs and dither in the lower few bits for hicolor. So there is an exact match between any 15/16 bit color and a 24 bit color. It just might not be what you think it is.
