Thank you for answering my question. No one up top was actually talking about the law that was violated. So this is more of a minor dangerous driving charge; it was a call made for the cop. Should be very difficult for the self driving company to fight.
People are kind of missing the point. What is important is what the law says. Does the law say 10 feet clearance is the closest you can drive to a pedestrian? Than 10.8 feet should be fine. 11 feet? Then the company has no leg to stand on. Is it up to the cop's discretion? Then the company has no leg to stand on.
There was a whole discussion under the highway accident about how it is too dangerous for a self driving car to slow down and pull over on the highway. You think they would be capable of that in city traffic? Where half the cars must drive into the intersection to make room for the emergency vehicle? Forget it. Pulling over on the highway is easy.
If a car is driving by GPS, and someone needs to make a detour in a road, how is the car going to not simply drive where the old GPS path is? You are proposing the GPS is a solution to confusing situations, which implies it would work in confusing situations such as a detour. If it doesn't work in such a situation, then we are back to it being absolutely critical that autonomous driving understands ALL temporary traffic markers, understands what a temporary asphalt road is, and it certainly needs to understand temporary speed limit/merge/bump ahead/men working/stop/slow/caution signs that is lying on their side on the ground and half dented because the wind blew it over.
I think we should just remember that writing with pen/pencil and paper is an important life skill, and we as humans should try to keep that skill well rehearsed for the sake of the human race. The skill will come in handy if the lights ever go out.
Oh and Musk said that section was travelled 85,000 times prior to the accident. Since the cars collect and transmit data, Tesla had a much more accurate picture of what the highway looked like than any GPS map is going to have. It still didn't help.
Construction companies will never make a complex GPS map of a detoured road, not for free at least, so good luck with that. Road repairs cost enough as it is. You're lucky if they come back and fix the 20 year old grungy cones that cars drove over.
Do you realize Blade Runner happens in 1 year and 7 months? In 1982 they thought we would have flying cars and replicants that look and act exactly like humans. You aren't that far off that amount of optimism.
Holy crap, why do people think lane markings will EVER be 100% accurate? That's a total fucking dream; and self driving cars have better damn well work with every possibility.
This is where it comes to sacrifices you make when you live somewhere like Silicon Valley, or most major tech hubs. Can you afford a place with interesting areas to bike ride?
Paying a company that owns a fleet in order to go anywhere, and having them sell the tracking information. Maybe even having to pay for permission to go to certain areas of a city. It is anybodies guess where it is going to go but it probably won't involve "liberty".
This is why AI is such a big thing, besides technology not really being there yet. People are reaching for 'we should be able to do this' but there is no self-driving yet. The step in technology required for it is too big and will skip the generation that wants it so badly. Me, I'm happy with the technological improvements in my time. I can watch a movie on a computer now. That's what I wanted as a kid on early computers.
It's all about what looks best on that vendor stand though (Ohh this one is even thinner!). That's the problem. It's like how the music industry is shit because everyone follows the simplest methods for making a sale (catchy beat) rather than following the difficult path of actually making good music.
I've figured out that the problem with my port is that the end assembly for the power cable sticks out an inch. Any time there is any sideways pressure on the power cable when plugged in (such as not being placed down entirely flat) causes sideways leverage on the power because of the way the power cable is designed. It is a classic bad design that wasn't thought out all the way, and I'm wondering if there is a more flexible USB-C dongle that might resolve the issue. I lothe the idea of buying MORE dongles though; especially to correct something that is a design flaw in the first place.
What I'm wondering is why anyone would ever, ever, buy a monitor as complicated as this! It's a freaking screen, it doesn't need intelligence. You bought it, you asked for any inconvenience it causes.

There was a in front of that. Stupid Slashdot formatting.
I now accept all legal obligation for what this machine does....

Did you think about hiring a marketing company?

Technology emphasizes our best and worst traits. As usual with humans, emphasizing the best often doesn't outweigh emphasizing the worst.
I've pretty much always had galaxy notes with protective covers and I've never had the pocket problem. I'm a baggy jeans or shorts kind of guy though.

Besides... computers attach to BIG screens, you know! :-)

None of those things make the phone look better on the vendor stand.

No it's like corporate pop music; it's not about being the best, it's about being the most palatable to the masses. Big difference, that.
I've looked at some extensions on Amazon and the jacket for the port seems to extend out a long way on every one.

I had a Thinkpad T23 docking station long ago and it didn't need any special 'intelligence'. What benefits does displaylink add?
