I hope they select the location of the cameras very carefully. The backup camera on my vehicle needs to be cleaned almost every time I use it in the winter. I can just look behind me for the amount of time that I'm backing up, but it would be awful annoying to have to clean 'mirror cameras'. The mirrors on the other hand can get dirt on them and they work just fine.
I think you have raised the true root of the problem. What is the tech industry doing to motivate kids to want to be developers one day? Large companies seem to forget that they must compete for workforce as kids come out of school and decide what they want to do in life. Unless a kid grew up in Silicon Valley, they probably don't even know someone who has a secure, successful job in computers. Heck, right now plumbing looks a lot better.
I had an Apple ][+ and I ended up in the computer industry. I don't really agree with this article. I had many friends at the time who know how to CATALOG and BRUN but I'm the only one who went on to be a developer. The reason why I got interested in developing is because my dad would buy Byte magazine and we would enter machine code programs together. This got me interested in 6502 and later C (when I got an IBM XT). It was only one or two years after the Apple ][+ came out that disks started to get formatted with the 'HELLO' menu-based entry screen anyway, I guess later when IBM XTs came out it was command line again but again that period was relatively short before windows took over.
I guess the point here is that making technology easier to use is nothing new. It has always been just the people who want to know more who look under the hood and learn.
Where I live, taxi's are contractually required to be available in front of the larger hotels. If you're down town, you just walk to the nearest hotel and there is your taxi.
This is about applying the exact same stimuli during the upbringing of the same person and yet getting people with vastly different beliefs about the world. Pretty scary that such a psychopath will soon be trying to drive us around.

They want to put taxis out of business, I don't think there is any doubt about that. Once evil taxis are out of business Uber can charge you even more on average than taxis charge now due to 'smart' pricing. Everyone who things taxis are evil.... just wait.
This is why I won't use any service that needs me to take a picture of my ID for uploading. Even if you put watermarks all over it, it is very risky. Apparently a lot of people will do things like this without thinking twice about it.
How much thought does a person really put into responding on snapchat? Petitions on electronic media just don't have the same resonance, because you're likely to think about what you're signing a lot more if it is a real piece of paper.
I have never given Facebook my phone number, nor have I ever installed the app. Somehow they are texting me and BEGGING me to come back. It's kind of funny.
To all of those two ask 'why don't you just move to where the jobs are'.. This is why! Why get a better salary if you just have to piss it away in a house and commuting time.

There are many places you can live and work where the commute time is less than 20 mins. I have been doing it my entire life.
That will happen with automation too.
As long as I still have a choice to use a manual vehicle, I have no issue with drunks risking their lives to automation.
