A lot of people are locked into buying if they are app developers. You can do the Android app on a mac but you can't do the iOS app on Windows or Linux.
I don't mind the feel of the keybord per se (and I type a lot) but the following things bother me:
- Touch strip is a bad idea. Maybe it helps people who use fancy software but I'm wearing out a bald spot in the case from when I use vi and miss the recessed non-tactile key.
- The key surface is chicklet and not cupped. This leads to lack of feedback when my hands are drifting off the keys.
- A keyboard that cannot be cleaned, really? Many people who buy Macbooks have houses slightly more messy than the Apple store. In fact, I find the neatness of the Apple store a bit unnerving.
I've experienced first hand the sound that the keys make. Picture a gooey public theater floor with spilled pop and candy on it over centuries, now press your foot down on that floor and lift it up. That is the sound the keys make. Fortunately, I got a new keyboard on Apple-care but I now have a laptop that I don't really feel like I can take anywhere because if anything else gets in the keys it will be a problem.
Marijuana has been legalized in all of Canada since Oct 17, which was the aniversary of the death of Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip, who tragically died of brain cancer on Oct 17, 2017. Some Americans have heard of them. We have stores that have no stock and are five times more expensive than the street, and we can grow 4 plants per household in most provinces.
MJ is legal now in Canada, but they set the prices in the stores at around the local street price and they never have stock, so while some people go to try it, most people who had a black market dealer before still have that same dealer today.
I guess that's a different way of looking at it. The thing is how do you list it on your resume if you can't put it under 'job roles'? It wasn't a job role, it was something you chose for yourself to do.
You're pretty lucky if you found a place that was willing to hire you for "hobby skills". Every place I have ever applied just want to know what I did for an actual company, they skip over the hobby section even if it does contain relevant skills. Experience doesn't matter if it doesn't come on a company name they know about.
Being senior generally means you get to pick the work you do within the job. Leaving that to go to a job where I'm bottom of the totem pole and I get all the work no one else wants doesn't appeal to me.
Contractors are cheaper for a company because it is easier to let them go and there are no benefits paid out. That's the only reason why they only hire contractors.
So? It's still going to be a lot of people out of work and it's not quite clear what will replace them. Soon you can add 'every fast-food worker' to that list.
We really need to start discerning between quality jobs that will pay a living wage and crap jobs. I think most people today are working but there is a huge problem finding jobs that are full time, pay well, and not based on contract. The gig economy is one way where people who used to have normal jobs are working in a very temporary fashion for small money. Gig workers should not even be counted as employed. Seems to be a lot of temporary work out there but nothing stable.
A lot of people are still having a hard time finding quality jobs. I know there are a lot of contract positions where I work, but the last regular was hired years ago.
What I was trying to say is, people already think taxes are too high. There is no way to spend a net-added $500 million on roads to update them without raising taxes. Therefore it cannot happen.
All I'm saying is you can't just say 'Waymo is good for 11,000 miles'. They are 11,000 carefully selected miles and are very difficult to compare to real world miles in any meaningful way.
Nothing to do with a pre-set course? They're only driving in Arizona! Was it icy and snowing when they did 11,000? Note that the accident rated in cold states are easily 50% greater than the warm. Also, if they're touching the steering wheel even when there is no accident then that's worse because it means they don't really trust it yet to even do simple things like stay in the right lane for a certain scenario.

You are staying in someone's house and they have no oversight by any authority.... what did you THINK was going to happen?
at around five times* the local street price

99% of my passwords are ssh passwords. How does this help me?

So you lied to them then. Well yeah it's pretty easy to get a job if you lie.

Bastard! Beat me to those exact words.

I'm glad to see someone else is finally talking about Costco trips.

How does "client support" help anyone in North America. Usually when I call a support desk it is clear the person isn't local.
Why don't they hire people who know what they are doing?
And who votes for the person that sets the taxes?
Why do you think nations won't import "needed US products"? If there is something that life saving only in the US, they send people to the US.
What I was trying to say is, people already think taxes are too high. There is no way to spend a net-added $500 million on roads to update them without raising taxes. Therefore it cannot happen.
Except for the many comments I see in my local news indicating that the government should not raise taxes, you're right, no indication.
