    Large hunting knife in the forehead, yes, headbutt, no.
    That (and I'm not saying I agree) is to do with "imitative behaviour". The idea being that its easier for kids to copy their heroes laying the Liverpool Kiss on one another than hacking limbs/skulls with knives/lightsabres.

    But you can (kind of). Newspapers are frequently, often extensively, revised, between first and subsequent/final print runs, and not always just to include more recent developments.

    I can see that book promoting communism is if you think that living with no privacy and not being able to decide one thing in your life, even who you love, and not being able to have free thoughts is a good thing
    Now I'm intrigued. Why do you think the totalitarian regime in 1984 is communist? There are certainly clues (Inner Party / Outer Party) but theres nothing particularly to distinguish their politics from totalitarian rightwing dictatorships. Oceania is a facist US, Eastasia is communist USSR. Why do you think airstrip one in communist too?

    (Now "Animal Farm" is about communism...)

    Thats not actually true. PG and U are both open to all. The PG is a warning to parents to use their discretion as to whether little Johnny should be allowed to go (harking back to a previous age, I fear).

    hurricanes and tornadoes, which have crucial features that won't be well modeled, if at all, by the large differential boxes they selected.
    I agree the grid resolution is high, but you've missed the point. The whole *idea* is to find which parameterisation of small scale effects (eddy viscosity, ground friction, mesoscale vortices, sea ice production, add-your-favourite-here) leads to the most accurate predictions. Even if the models are flawed, this is still worth doing.

    PS: IMHO, volcanic ash effects are overrated.

    Except there is no such thing as "The Times Of London." Its called "The Times", and as a native New Yorker, its older than your country.

    It's very easy to argue that a compiler is a far more fundamental and important part
    The existence of one is very important. The provision of one is frequently irrelevant (home users, non programmers [i.e. almost everyone], embedded systems.)

    Its interesting you give a link for that phrase, as it doesn't mean what you think it does.
    I expect that the two dials on my microwave operate the same way. I expect that every car I drive have controls that operate closely to each other.
    But by those criteria KDE and Gnome (and Apple Macs, and MS Windows &c&c) are functionally identical. No less different than the controls in a Lexus from a Chevy Nova.

    The fact that so many apps depend on IE is a testimant to it's componentised design
    But componentisation cuts both ways. Nobody )or at least "not me") is complaining about Microsoft saying "if you remove the HTML rendering library", many 3rd party apps won't work. Thats fair enough (and good design). The problem comes when you say "if you remove the HTML rendering library (or, worse yet, use Netscape's) nothing will work".
