    Slightly shorter way for zsh, in case you were using it already and didn't know about the $var:x stuff.
    I do use zsh, and I was aware of this feature but no matter how i try, I cannot seem to remember the syntax :( So I use the one I can remember...

    There's an equivalent one in bash, too. (Goes and looks it up)

    for i in img*.jpg; do convert $i ${i%.jpg}.png; done

    Why type when you can just point and click?
    Batch jobs. You just can't beat
    for i in img*.jpg; do convert $i $(basename $i .jpg).png; done


    Everything else, I do in emacs...

    I think the phrase you're looking for is "something similar has happened once before." Thats a pretty quick leap from "unique event" to "tradition".

    Thats not entirely it. Fische Random is designed to remove the advantage to be gained from memorising scores and scores of standard openings and to encourage play based on talent rather than preparation.

    Google searches blogs too. So their USP is that it "scours" your hard disk and emails and lots of other "local" information as well. That's exactly what spyware does.
    Hell, thats what Windows "Find" does, or find . -print | xargs grep

    The important point is *what happens to that data*. Spyware collates it and sends it to its master. Blinkx says that theres doesn't do this.

    So its not spyware.

    Mind the strap on that tinfoil hat.

    And you're right. Because the US doesn't have gulags in cold Siberia. They have temporary detention facilities in sunny Cuba.

    But don't worry, they still don't have to give you a trial, or legal representation, or follow the Geneva convention. Not to mention the lovely treatment you might expect at Abu Ghraib...

    I don't think it does do much (or indeed, any) damage to the plaintiff beyond very mild inconvenience.

    Right. So, rather sensibly, they've imposed the status quo as a temporary measure, and the judge will use that time to find out the background to the case, and will undoubtedly receive amicus briefs informing them. Then, suitably informed, they'll (s)he'll make the decision.

    Theres no reason that a judge should be expected to understand DNS and the Internet routing, any more than you should understand property conveyance law.

    Those kinds of tactics are exactly what are hurting Formula 1 as a whole, and not just the Ferrari/M. Schumacher image.
    No, whats hurting F1 is, on the majority of courses, its almost impossible to overtake, which means that its almost never maneuvers that win races, but consistent speed and a good pit stop strategy.

    Schumi's great, but even he uses the pit stops to actually overtake (on the rare occasions when he's not on pole).

    I just bought Franz Ferdinand last night from iTunes and I know they have the White Stripes.
    They're signed to different labels in the US than in Europe. (FF are on indie Domino in the UK, distinctly non-indie Sony in the US; white stripes are on XL and V2, respectively) Thats the difference.
