So, stop complaining and submit it as a bug. I am sure the developers would be happy to have such a great test case. You can find instructions on how to submit bugs at http://bugzilla.mozilla.org
So, you are saying that all this fuss is because you wanted to wave a red rag at the bull by *pretending* you were offering decss software.
But I was offering deCSS software.
The result of this is that the University has spent, and is still spending, a vast amount of administrative effort and lawyers' fees over something that has nothing to do with it, and is just a game to you.
It's up to you what you choose to spend your money on. (Personally I would rather see it spent on education.)
"9.2. the creation or transmission of material which is designed or likely to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety;"
I believe that the deCSS program this student published is designed to remove the CSS tags from html. In what way can that be said to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety ?
Perhaps I should write to Oxford University and tell them that their entire web site is causing me anxiety, (since it now lacks deCSS) and that it should be removed immediately.
In what way did they do the right thing ? deCSS is only illegal in the US. If any lawyers had asked them to remove it, the proper response from the university should be 'f**k off back the States'
Get a grip. The mozilla guys say it's been taken out temporarily because it was buggy. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and see what happens. If it doesn't reappear in the near future then we have every right to be angry, but till then I am holding my judgement. As somebody pointed out, the codebase is changing very very rapidly, features are popping in and out of visiblity all the time.
Since I *never* click on banner ads, why should I be forced to download them ? It makes no sense, and slows down the network. People who _do_ like to click on banner ads will presumably not block them, otherwise they might miss out on their fun. Do you see the point I am trying to make ?

Of course, Microsoft could better that by coming up with a space travelling Barney. No no, I don't even want to think about that one...
"By Friday afternoon [today], state officials had laid varying plans to present their opinions. Attorney General Tom Miller of Iowa, who has spoken throughout the case on behalf of several states and who advocates breaking up the company, scheduled a 5:15 p.m. EDT news conference. Meanwhile, Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. of Maryland, who has publicly expressed doubts about breaking up the company, planned to discuss a separate opinion around 5 p.m. EDT."
Ah, but will they offer linux clients for their modems ? Until that happens they could offer all the bandwidth in the world and it wouldn't mean very much to me.
Or simply write them a letter informing them that you have intellectual property rights to 'all material objects', and that everything on e-bay should be removed immediately. That should do the trick;-)
Where's the info on getting this to work with linux ? USB shouldn't be too much of a problem should it, I believe it's supported in the 2.3 kernels and will be in 2.4.
Say a Japanese site wants to link to something 'illegal'. They send you the link they want and you link it from your (outside Japan) site. The Japanese site then links to your link. You charge them a small fee for maintaining the link. If the Japanese site is prosecuted, they simply notify you, and you change your link to something harmless.
Any Venture Capitalists reading this want to give me some money ?
The Mozilla ui is the slowest I've ever used or seen and the most likely to crash.
It's still beta, so what's your point ?
AOL has no serious plans to challenge Microsoft in the browser market with Netscape 6.
If you have inside information on AOL's plans, please share it with us. Otherwise it's just your opinion. You should make it clear.
AOL will continue to make token Beta releases of its Netscape 6 browser for a while but will in the end just take it off life support.
If they do that, and I don't see any reason for them to do so, Mozilla will still live - that's the beauty of open source.
I do know that the Kde browser is damned good and the upcoming Konquer is looking superb.
Fine, then use it. But KDE isn't free. When I tried it, it crashed frequently on my machine, forcing me to reboot. If and when KDE becomes totally free, doesn't crash my machine, and Konqueror gives me all the functionality of Netscape (mail, news etc). I might start using it. Till then I'll be supporting the cross platform Mozilla project.
IANAL (;-) but I wonder if Netscape would have a defamation case against M$ if they brought this to court ? After all, it has now been proven that M$ published something which defames their engineers (albeit slightly cryptically). Anybody care to comment ?
True, but most software companies have some form of code reviewing procedure in place before releasing any production software, which should catch this kind of silliness.
So you wouldn't object to a Vietnamese auction site that sold uniforms of US soldiers killed in the war over there either ?

Or even better, one that changes [insert name of UCITA using company here] to The Free Software Foundation...

Sorry sir, you'll have to wait until we've rebooted...

Gimp is free, it's open source, it's extendible. What does this package offer which that's better ?
Surely as 'father of the internet' he deserves _some_ credit...

Well, most *decent* software shops do anyway ;-)
