    You mean to tell me that oil trains aren't reported to emergency officials already? That just seems like common sense. I find it hard to believe that the thousands of people involved in this process aren't already yelling about how there needs to be information passed to governing bodies about the fact that rails are carrying huge amounts of chemicals and oil. Any type of hazardous material should be reported before the train leaves. A truck carrying oil or fuel needs to register its cargo and get a permit to haul it. A ship or airplane same thing. Pipelines declare their cargoes before being built. Am I to understand that for hundreds of years now trains have gotten free reign and can transport anything they want without telling state officials? How fucking stupid are we????

    Your word means nothing. We already had that promise and you broke it. No we don't want another empty promise. You promised Windows 98 would be faster, and the only thing it was faster at was crashing, using up all a computer's memory to encourage upgrades, and catching viruses. You been promising that for decades. Why should this promise be any different?

    I just can't see why you haven't thought of grabbing 10 or so 2TB or 3TB drives, copying a segment of the data to them and putting them back in their anti-static bags on the shelf somewhere. SATA drive docks are cheap, or plug it into your eSATA port to access the drive. Perform updates once per week on only the lead drive. I think the problem that remains is software to index it all and know which files need to be backed up and which are on drive X of Y.

    They already have cordless electric car charging stations. Put it on the floor of your garage at home, drive in, walk inside, forget about it. Takes zero time to manage your charge.

    How exactly does an airplane refuel itself in mid air? Magic second tank that stores extra fuel in a way that doesn't take up the same weight/space a normal tank does?

    What the hell do you mean "how does it refuel in midair?" It flies up to a refueling tanker or blimp and takes on fuel through a big hose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A...

    It's entirely possible he ran the results through grep or maybe sed to determine which documents were valuable and which were worthless. Therefore anyone who uses wget, grep, or sed throughout their daily work is going to be added to a terrorist watch list and interrogated on weekends at Guantanamo.

    Not saying it would take an hour for him to bother with collecting these tips, but let's consider whether it's actually worth the time it would take Mister Torvalds to actually do the act you're begging him to do. The earlier posts regarding the amount of the tips are rather correct. It's pretty small considering. Nice thought tho, getting actual pay to the devs who make all of the software we love to grab for free (beer), on top of the fact that it's open sourced and free (libre)

    The guys who are starting up and building this project are absolutely brilliant. Not because they're trying to emulate human behavior, or even because they're trying to make a digital afterlife. The former is probably not that hard, and the latter is just marketing spin. No, they're brilliant because they've found the ultimate way to tap unlimited funding! They will attract millions of dollars from the NSA, CIA, Rothschilds, Bilderburgs, Rockerfellers and Koch brothers. They will never have to worry about work again, and can probably siphon off a few bucks for themselves or side projects. Spectacular genius. Only in America.

    A pardon? Fuck that. What he deserves is to be the interim leader of the world until we can hold a full plebiscite on how the world should be governed and why all of the so-called rules he broke are meaningless and worthless and not actual crimes for him to be pardoned from.

    What is he going to get as soon as the US coaxes him out of hiding and into their waiting and loving arms? Piano wire and a secret grave. Torture until he reveals the location of the compromised documents which remain. If you think words and promises are enough for the people who want this guy to shut up, you really need to give more thought and examination into who they are, what they are capable of, why they want it.

    I found this summary of the situation very enlightening as I read the actual article, after reading this. It appears that the shooter knew all of this in advance, being a seasoned veteran of the force. The gun went off only after there had been an assault. He was pissed and looked for his excuse to kill the asshole who is not only texting in a theater, but also not doing what this old cop says.
