After reading this article (and noticing redirects being performed on my system - i thought it was something else, not morpheus) I downloaded this utility: BHO Cop which is designed to search out these nasty browser-attached proggies and allow the user to disable them. I found the culprit: bpboh.dll put out by Wurld Media, who, according to their inadequite website, claim the primary goal of their business is to help companies be profitable (very ambiguous, don't you think?).
Well, I disabled the.dll w/ BHO Cop, relogged in (WinXP) and low and behold, when I go to amazon.com, I end up at the root page rather than a referal page deep in the system.
So - download and run BHO Cop now! who knows what else you might find (Acrobat seems to have dumped something as well)
of course that turns off flash, shockwave, java, possibly windows audio support, quicktime, real, vrml, and a whole slew of other things you might have running and actually want
This isn't that bad really for the user, Yahoo and Amazon will give a commision to somebody anyways
WRONG!!!!! - What's happening here is when a user types in amazon.com, Morpheus redirects the request through their amazon referrer page. Hence, amazon is now paying out referals that it otherwise would not have. Direct navigation does not incurr referal fees, only refered navigation
I saw something doing that (wierd long url and instant redirect) when I was browsing, esp. when I went to register.com.......I figured some piece of software I had was doing it (figured it was DivX 5 though).....now I know
Ive got a nice wonderfully fast internet connection....only problem is I must connect through a Cisco VPN 5000 server....hence, I need ISOs to do installs
I've been running to Athalon XP 1800+ 's in the dual proc board from Asus. My machine boots into WinXP Pro just fine and definately takes advantage of the dual processors (been watching cpu time and usage in the task manager) especially in 3D Studio. I just popped the chips in and the bios saw them as MPs. Does anyone know whats the min speed of the chips (1800, 1900, 2000?) that requires this mod?
BTW... I haven't had any system instability related to the dual XPs. I had serious crashes caused by the Creative drivers/spyware, and I've had problems with power (the computer drawing more than the UPS can handle and tripping it). The most important thing w/ the dual proc athalon boards is to make sure you have a 450 watt power supply (and suitable UPS) or the system will crash.
Not quite....what if for example, I often need every precious CPU cycle I can get....for instance, rendered animations in 3D studio. And lets say for instance that that is my livlyhood (which it is)....
I recently installed the drivers on my new dual proc Athalon for the Creative SBLive! Platinum. It included newsupd.exe, the wonderful spyware program. Knowing what I did about the nasty proggy (which has a tendency to lock up in XP) I brought up task manager and low and behold, Creative's spyware was using up exactly %50 of the processor time. It was using up AN ENTIRE PROCESSOR!! For what? spyware!
Now, factor in that if I was trying to do renderings. If 50% of my processor availablity is gone, that means my 2 hour render is suddenly 4 hours, which means a loss of 2 billable hours of productivity time (since rendering time bills out for much less than manhours).
Sounds like an impact on me, doesn't seem to be "zero interference" and I have been deprived of potential income.
Yes, I know that WHQL is for hardware drivers. I was using it as an example of the type of system he wanted. Yes I know most stuff doesn't get WHQL certified, and thats mostly because developers dont want to take the extra time and effort to guarrantee that their components don't interfere w/ anyone else's.
Point is, WHQL works when people actually comply with it. If a software standard like it was implemented, it wouldn't solve the problem, because no one would take the extra time for the development. Or, they would do it for their first release, but not subsequent upgrades and patches (NVIDIA's detonator XP drivers?)
As much as I might feel that governmental regulation and litigation is the only way to enforce anything these days, it depresses me because of the precedent it sets, and because it seems our entire society is transforming from the original "American Dream" of working hard to get a better job, house, etc. to a new "American Dream" of sue and litigate if something goes wrong. Its a symptom of work ethic falling by the wayside to greed and laziness.
Well, Maya is available for Linux, and having used both it and Blender, I think its a little more intuitive, and a lot more powerfull....but its gonna cost you an arm, a leg, and a kidney.
I use a digital sound card as well...but use the analog connectors so I can utilize the 5.1 abilities in more than just DVDs/DTS/AC3 encoded sound.....
Disconnect your mic, leave it turned on, and turn your system volume way up....and listen to all the static and noise still being generated by all those wonderfull little electrical fields interacting all over the inside of your case.
posting with my account because i'm not afraid of karma burn.....
Just read comments at a +2 filter! duh! Sheesh man, when there's a system in place that avoids/controlls an issue, use it instead of babbling on about developing a new one. Thats just like a politician
This is a cool idea, I've been wondering for a while how feasible it is......especially since I have 9 indigos + keyboards/mice + 19" monitors filling up a closet.....hmmmmm.....I could use some more ideas though...
Now you face 2 questions harder than the proposal:
1. Does think geek to wedding registries?
2. When you move in togethor, the determining factor in choosing a place will be: does it have enough power outlets? and what amperage are the breakers set at?
illegally patching into pay phones will only get you a 14.4 connection (I have this on authority from someone who traveled all over one of the largest cities in the US cutting off payphone handsets and jerry-rigging it to his laptop modem)...I get the impression that a connection that slow isn't going to buy you enough time to do any hacking against the DOD.:D
Mod the parent up! It is an excellent example of what will happen with this system. Do you really want to be backpacking through the wilderness, find a wonderfull view and whip out your GPS to track the coordinates so you can tell your friends...only to find "FIRST POST" blasting across your display? I don't think so.
Wait, it came back (not the "plugin", the redirects). Morpheus is going to be unistalled...I'll post an update.

Google does not cache the images, it merely caches the source code of the site.
Exactly what I was gonna say, this "invention" from Phillips, is just a Wacom tablet + wireless and - the extreme sensitivity

Good thing I disabled it huh?

Anonymous Coward...hmmmm.....
who said I was Windows-bashing? I use XP almost exclusively, mostly because the industry apps I need are not available for linux.
Alias/wavefront is the company, Maya is the 3D app....see next post

ummm.... FF 10 is only 1 disc
Congrats to both of you!

Congrats!!
Now the really tough question, does ThinkGeek do wedding registries?
ummm....the samsung palm+phone combo has the same voice recognition features present in the other samsung phones....check it out at SprintPCS
