They probably just outsourced the tedious monitoring for IP abuse to another company, which is under orders to send cease and desist letters whenever they find something. Well, there's a reason we can't be sure of any interaction: they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us. They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded dwarves. Hobbits have no beards. There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear quietly and quickly when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off.

So I look back ten years, and think about how Linux was back then, and I have to chuckle a bit. The desktop of today is a bit better than it was a year ago, but you don't _really_ see the differences unless you step back a lot more..

I first used Linux back in 93, and to be honest while the modern Linux desktop is obviously better, it's not really THAT much changed. No more so than the other OSes at least. And some (like MacOS) evolved a lot faster desktop-wise.

Linus Torvalds: I think Hurd is dead. See above on why. It has a "big vision", and people forgot about the details, and forgot about admitting when they went wrong. So the project stumbled, and _still_ didn't bother to look down on the ground. But hey, I might be wrong. I haven't actually followed Hurd in any detail, and maybe the project is more down-to-earth now, and more concerned about getting things working, and less about "design".

You know, I don't give HURD much of a chance, but I really don't think that sneer is especially appropriate. They were trying to do something modern, instead of spending 10 years creating just another UNIX clone

    And less conceited.

This from a man who named an operating system after himself.

The funny thing is most slashdot stories about something the MPAA has done are followed by comments about "who cares, Hollywood movies are so bad why would you want to watch them anyway?". You do realize that you can't honestly be in both camps, you know? You can't criticize the mindless drivel that Hollywood puts out and then say in the next breath that you're eagerly awaiting Doom.

Alright, I MAY see it, but that's only because Rosamund Pike is sexy as hell. When you're the sexiest woman in a movie that also stars Halle Berry, that's something special. But the movie itself isn't something that a sentient being should look forward to.
