Completely useless on the street. The mugger will in most cases be faster, tougher, and a lot more used to these situations than you. Unless you're being mugged by cardboard posters standing 30 meters away from you all that target work won't matter.
I never have understood the insanity on the internet regarding Tesla. He's an extremely well-known figure in scientific history, as a quick glance at any textbook on the subject will amply show. Where does everyone get the idea he's an unappreciated genius? Also keep in mind that the man was clinically insane, so a lot of the stuff he claimed to have invented never existed.
As for the radio thing, yeah, he probably did more than Marconi, but both of them built on the research of others. Tesla was not, as some seem to think, some sort of genius savant who came up with his ideas in a vacuum. I don't understand why people pick him to champion at the expense of earlier radio pioneers without whom he wouldn't have gotten far. But for some reason the fringe selects Tesla as their hero, despite the fact that there are people who've done more important work in science and technology and gotten less credit.
I agree. My worry is not so much monitoring as it is public safety. How do I know twenty years from now my girlfriends/SOs necklace/ring won't have an RFID tag in it saying what it is and how much it's worth. Some shady character comes along, uses his blackmarket scanner to figure out if she's worth mugging and then mugs her.
Or, even worse, she gets a blackmarket scanner and finds out that the necklace you bought her is really a cubic zirconium...
Are there any major OEMs who offer it now? Where the fact that it's linux has a noticeable effect on the price (i.e. it's $100 or so cheaper than the same system they sell with windows)?

t will likely remain too expensive in the foreseeable future because we are not learning how to do it more cheaply. It then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
That assumes erroneously that scientific development that will help in space exploration won't happen without space exploration. Every advance in computers, advanced materials, nanotech, etc. can help future space missions, even if they're not created with space exploration in mind.
The whole point is that this is closer to a printer that rearranges its "toner" on the page.
It's going to be so much fun when the technology is released, but still obscure. You can trick people into thinking they're insane when the words on the paper you hand them start changing...
Hell, i would have been ok with outsourcing if i had just been given some warning. How about phasing in this outsourcing over five years? Warn everyone so they can plan, then do it? That's not what happened here. Why?
John Kerry started calling for a 3 month warning for outsourcing and every right-wing zealot crawled out from under their rock and started shrieking "OBSTRUCTIONIST!" at him.
We expect 40 hour work weeks, Unions, job security and maybe even a little real Democracy
Yet Americans work longer hours with less vacation time than just about anyone. Job security is non-existent (at-will employment is the norm) and has been for decades. Where the hell is this luxurious lifestyle we're supposed to be living? Because we buy a few more household electronics than most countries? Look at the middle class in third world countries--same electronics, but they work less, and household servants. Where's the luxury over here?

big and bulky with the 1/4 inch jack and cover up your entire ears.
The muggers might leave alone, but you'll need a stick to fend off all the women coming on to you.
CALM THE HELL DOWN. Geeze, you people overreact waaaaay too much to this issue. Take a valium or something.

Yeah, if he's so smart, why isn't he rich?
The FAQ says about 9000 rupees. Doesn't seem like that great a deal personally...

Ok, Ebeneezer.
And population growth will eventually stabilize.

So where exactly did you want to spend the money? Medical research? Doesn't help when the human race is gone.
So don't save someone's life because in 500 million years they'll be dead anyway.
Ending world hunger? There won't be anyone left to be hungry anyway.
Why don't we feed the hungry now, and pay for space exploration in say 100 or 200 million years? That way we all win.

They might steal the GNOME source code!!
ancy graphics, eye candy, etc, appeals to the masses.
Then count me among the masses. I want my desktop to look stylish and futuristic. And I don't like beige computers.
it's like whining about the food in school/corp cafeteria. it's not like the stuff is literally wretched
In those nice well-funded suburban schools, maybe. Try a NYC public school lunch then tell me that.
While you're in NYC, don't forget to visit Korean town around 40th and have some sushi.
Or Chinatown for some tacos, or Little Italy for some chicken tandoori, or Little India for a nice pastrami sandwich...

And an excuse for me to become one of the fat shareholders!
If you pay into a pension fund, you already are one.

Why do Americans think they're the only ones who deserve decent jobs?
Why does everyone else think that Americans should be altruistic to the point of extinction, but of course they can be protectionist and xenophobic.
And another hint - there are a lot of gamers in foreign countries too.
Then why don't they make games for themselves? Why does everyone want in on the American economy?
If it weren't for the fact that the Japanese economy tanked we would be in a pretty lousy position. We just got lucky.
Interesting way to go about it!
Cutting parts of the company that don't make money? No, it's not very interesting, it's actually standard operating procedure for most companies.
is a test. To see if my posts are actually getting through.
If by best you mean worst.
It is also insanely expensive, around $500/gallon!
Wow, that's almost as much as a comparable amount of Starbuck's coffee...
