It makes a point that idiots like you shouldn't blindly exec perl one-lineers off slashdot sigs. See my profile for an actual nasty version and more info.

The hardware is top notch, the performance of an entire Linux system compiled natively for my own processor is excellent.

    Bullocks.

The only thing that XML-ifying is going to do is bloat the hell out of the system and make it impossible for Joe User to quickly pop in and change things in his config files. Programs still will have their own specific configuration specifications, but now instead of just using plain text files like most do we get to add the complexity of XML.

I'd suggest as an alternative an .ini type standard. Still easily readable by humans but well organized for easy parsing.

Provided that widespread use is the goal of your project (I think it's safe to say Gnome/KDE has that goal) it's wise to listen to complaints like these.

    You're right about the congress-fear.

I would disagree with de-funding NPR though.

Were it not for NPR and PBS I probably wouldn't be in touch with news at all. This being mainly due to my severe aversion to 5 minutes of advertising 4 times an hour (or more)

I actually expect NPR and PBS might survive on their own merits (with some trimming of the fat of course) were they to lost funding from congress. The quality and variety of programs have been increasing and improving over the years quite nicely.

I won't even point to the obvious bias you hold as shown by your homepage link. (need to remove home and put in www btw to update it =)
