I have seen his web site. RMS is no more a lunatic than Rush Limbaugh... far less in fact. He has a different sense of humor, one that most /hackers/ understand but the general public might not.

Your post is FUDdy. I'd mod you down.

Hardly. How would you like to create a new program, say a secure instant messaging program, which you release into the public domain.

From this point, any company can take it, slap their name on it, make it their proprietary work, and sell it without giving you any credit. They can also deny you the ability to use any changes they make.

That doesn't sound like freedom to me, it sounds like opening yourself to exploitation.

The motivation of free software authors is usually the boost they get from people using their software. Take that away and there's no point in writing it.

Give me a break. The GPL protects the rights of free software authors. It's a Good Thing(tm).

I do contribute to charities doing great work in Africa. My goal in life is to make a great deal of money and leave it, in the form of a foundation, to those who need it. This would satisfy me as being a well-lived life.

So, my skills do indeed directly impact my potential to do good.

We the people, who have benefited directly from the colonization, enslavement and exploitation of the African people DO owe them a great deal.

I, a white U.S. citizen, have benefitted directly from the slave trade in that my nation was built on the backs of black slaves. Our economic prosperity today can be directly linked to the plundering of the continent of Africa.

When drug companies benefit from our government's research (they don't even have to pay for it, we the taxpayers take up to 100% of the cost!) and then proceed to patent and market the drugs that their dirty money in D.C. got them for practically nothing, they are screwing everybody but their shareholders.

It's a crying shame that we send 5 billion dollars to Isreal every year to torture and commit genocide against Palestinians. This money should go to Africa, who our fathers raped and pillaged, and we have benefitted.

This was a more relevant comment from the site, as far as I'm concerned this seals the issue on Tesla being the inventor of radio.

The Patent Office made the following comment in 1903:

Many of the claims are not patentable over Tesla patent numbers 645,576 and 649,621, of record, the amendment to overcome said references as well as Marconi's pretended ignorance of the nature of a "Tesla oscillator" being little short of absurd... the term "Tesla oscillator" has become a household word on both continents [Europe and North America].

As an adult male of 25 who looks 14 to most who meet me, I understand the difficulties in being pre judged based on appearance. I frequently find it frustrating as hell, so I can relate to what you're saying.

I've found that once people get into a conversation with me and get to know me that it is no longer an issue.

I doubt if there is any way that people can be conditioned to not pre-judge others based on appearance. Though most are terrified to admit it, it's coded into our ROM to be prejudiced, and so we should just deal with the hand we're dealt and knock off the lawsuits already.

Perhaps I should sue companies who haven't hired me based on my "lack of experience" (translated as "looks young") after sounding very interested in me on the phone...
