When it comes to most American business, they can't see longer than the next quarter down the road when it comes to profits.
Like the mortgage companies, make money fast, get the mortgage out there, who cares if they can't pay and it goes into foreclosure, that is down the road and someone else's problem.
No we are heading towards depression with real unemployment in the double digits. (not the sanitized number which doesn't count people who have given up hope of ever finding work and those still trying but unsuccessful, those that can't afford a babysitter anymore and thus can't keep looking for work, etc). It's about 17%.
Want Linux to be able to run as efficiently as possible, with everything you need, and nothing you don't? Don't want to lose features you want, or be forced to deal with bloat? Want it tuned for your hardware?
Especially since heart failure due to cardiomyopathy won't be avoided by avoiding the risk factors for coronary artery disease (which still doesn't guarantee disease or lack thereof).
Plenty of people get full blown congestive heart failure with an EF of under 20%, severe shortness of breath, etc with perfectly clean arteries and a great diet (and exercise right up until they got sick).
Too bad the media is too stupid to differentiate between different forms of "heart disease".
Someone was arrested for having an "obviously fake" driver's license because the cop didn't believe West Virginia was a state.
Its not just cops though...
I knew someone who had an employee ask him if Ohio was part of the US. The employee worked in the mailroom!
A friend of mine lived on Arizona Avenue and was ordering a pizza. The pizza person on the phone asked "How is that spelled?"! My friend said "like the state". The pizza person said "State??"!
People are usually willing to not employ someone for reasons that would never justify them boycotting a business.
E.g. A much higher percentage of people would refuse to hire someone who got caught with weed 20 years ago than would boycott a business run by someone who did.
Losing 50% of job opportunities vs. 5% of customers is a big difference.
Same worry in a few years time, with the potential to misuse DNA records. (Try getting insurance once that happens, if you have any chance of developing long term illnesses).
Thankfully with a Democratic Congress and Obama, the US will move its health care system out of the Stone Age and we will have universal medical insurance.
#2 - Enough with the damn system clock. If you want to have a clock, have it ping an NTP server somewhere (heck, give the user a choice of which government or private-industry one they want to ping) for the time when it comes up.
Ah, but the western governments would soon institute a ministry of fun, and that would quickly come to the realisation that it would be best for the children if fun were banned entirely.
That already exists. It is called a school district. They outlawed recess essentially (liability issues - sorry in the real world, people get hurt, if we acted the same with cars, we'd all be walking - and also it costs too much - like type 2 diabetes doesn't) and have made learning as boring as possible.
Or when it is cold in the house and you need to to warm up ASAP.
There is a reason most heat pump systems also include resistive heat. And turn it on if the temperatures is more than a few degrees below the set point.
Saving energy in the winter if you have electric heat (not heat pump, actual heat converted from electricity, e.g. resistive) is pointless, btw, both from a financial and environmental point of view, since every Kwh wasted (i.e. turned into heat) is a Kwh saved by the heater running less to keep the same temperature. If it takes a certain amount of Kw to offset heat loss, it doesn't matter where it comes from. Even for more efficient heaters, power saving makes some impact, but less due to the offsetting effect of more demand for heat.
So if they say something saves a certain amount of energy overall, that figure has to be reduced taking into account the above.
If they arrest a high percentage of people - they are using Orwellian tech to implement fascism - look at all the people arrested! If they arrest a low percentage of people - they are incompetent and are using technology to harass a lot of innocent people - look at how many aren't even arrested!
Looking for work?
There aren't any jobs left!
Not even at McDonalds.
Unless you are going to work in the unemployment office or work as a termination consultant or a foreclosure specialist!
Recession proof?
What are you, a layoff/termination specialist?
1/2 :)
That would take you being smart enough to manager credit well enough to have a lot of available credit, but be dumb enough to buy a Hyundai. :)
Home equity Visa? WTF! OMG! LOL!
Talk about making it even easier to have your house foreclosed on!
You can include or exclude whole packages AND you can enable/disable features at the source code level.

Illegal??
Absolutely. Don't take this as 'EVE doesn't work on Linux'. It does, it just needs Wine.
That misses the point.
If something requires an emulator (or whatever is it considered) that it doesn't run natively on Linux. Which is the point.
It is like saying you can do 100 miles an hour on a bicycle, the bicycle just needs an engine added to it.

Gentoo Linux lets you do all that.

Saying "Screw that bill" would be a felony, even though that is not even a violation of FCC rules on public airwaves.
Vulgar is a very low standard, morning radio shows reach that standard often. Not Howard Stern, but just run of the mill local morning radio shows.
This is so unconstitutional even Bush wouldn't support it!

Wouldn't the breaker trip or do they not trip when backfed?
I thought only GFCI/AFCI protection didn't work in reverse, but overcurrent protection did.
Fatigue on top of a complete loss of motivation and disorientation is the big killer.
Sounds like a typical day at Microsoft.
Well the Feds do say anything over 200 kbps qualifies as broadband. :)
$0.20 for text messages?!
$15/mo and I have INFINITE text messages!

Remember the Netgear NTP denial of service?

Premature replacement means more waste and more oil used to produce the new unneeded item.
Yes, there is a break even point, but one can waste by buying more efficient items too soon.
Try running a heat pump when it is 40 below.
Or when it is cold in the house and you need to to warm up ASAP.

What about a working spreadsheet?
Gnumeric worked PERFECTLY until I tried to PRINT in which case it had MAJOR PORTIONS BLACKED OUT AS IF THE GOVERNMENT HAD CENSORED IT.
This was on Windows btw.
