  1. Only 80%? on 80% Of Incoming E-mail At Hotmail Is Spam · · Score: 1

That number seems a little low...I have somewhere in the range of 50 to 75 emails come in per day to my hotmail account, and it's all spam.

Probably because I use my hotmail account for anything that appears on the web, and never my real email address.

I guess if you include the number of people who actually use a hotmail account for their real email, that number still sounds about right.

  2. No reason? on Ars Technica Reviews Mozilla · · Score: 1

Overall they say that mozilla would make a good substitute for IE 6 but there is no major reason to switch over.

No major reason? Standards compliance isn't a major reason? I admit, IE complies with most standards, but I still have pages which render correctly in Mozilla and improperly in IE.

That's the nice thing about Mozilla...there are enough people working on it who care about things like this to make it work correctly.

Since 1.0 came out, I haven't started IE. No need. There are other reasons, too. Tabbed browsing? It's a great feature. One window, multiple pages. This alone is a feature I think would make IE much better. I can't say anything about the other features of Mozilla (Chatzilla, Mail, etc) because I've only ever used the browser.

I must admit that IE loads faster. But with its other problems, I'd rather wait a few seconds for a page rendered properly.

I'd be curious to see how this pans out...I still highly doubt that just because it follows a standard that it will be able to compete with RH. As I said earlier, it's all about the support.

I think the best way to try and beat RH is to beat them in support. Building another 'standard' distribution won't help.

Ok, I'll admit that we only have one machine with that kind of uptime. However, our unix systems have excellent uptimes. They would be better, but everyone's favorite company (Sun) has so many security issues that they need to be purposely downed for patching. So, let me rephrase my statement.

Show me a windows box that, not excuding intentional downtime for patching, can "outlive" a unix box, and I'll change my thinking.

Seems to me that there are better ways to create light weight cases which are both easy to upgrade/modify and portable.

If you're really looking for a gaming rig, or just something that's easily portable for a LAN part, go with something like that mini 1GHz machine that Thinkgeek has. It's not the perfect solution (aka, doesn't have that kick-ass graphics card you'd like for an FPS), but it's beyond portable.
