You are still thinking about this in a system where there is no atmosphere on earth. You forgot about refraction due to the atmosphere. The refraction might be small enough to ignore for the time being, but a large flux in the atmospheric pressure, storms, and you can have your beam focusing completely off target.

Interesting concept thought. I hope this will solve our pollution problem too.

I was watch Discovery Science channel yesterday, Weapons of the New War, about the techonologies the government is using for targeting systems. They have GPS and geometric recognition used in combination to send a missile directly at a target. Basically if they know what the target looks like, they can shoot the missile at any door/window/wall they wish. This would be cool for this if it could recognize certain objects as movable and others as stationary/not to be interfered with.

  17. Numbers is marketing... on Nintendo Declares GCN Most Popular Console Ever · · Score: 0

Everything you said is true, and the fact of the matter is, Nintendo built more systems before its release date, (regardless of cost/time/production), and MS thought releasing fewer would draw more eyes to its rarity, (regardless if the smaller amount of units was caused to production errors/short supplies).

MS thought, "We need high demand on the product so let's cut short the supply", while Nintendo thought, "Damn we need a shit load of these GCs so we don't sell out like we did with the N64 release!"

  19. Re:Here we go again on Another Plane Down in New York · · Score: 0

Question: Has anyone released video of the plane crashing? If yes, then there should be some thoughts that this was a terrorist action.

How can this happen? Several possiblities:
    1) mechanical tampering before take off. Unlikely with the new heightened security.

    2) projectile shot at the plane. More likely, a large rifle might give enough accuracy, and can cause the engine to drop out. A bird would cause similar damage, but usually those types of incidents are recoverable.

And let's make the letters damn convincing, with lines like, "In case you didn't relized from the obituaries, this is a dead person writing to you."

This would invalidate some of those real MS support letters from the morons who used Word to print their return labels and can't get the printout to align just right.

But this is all just a rant, and the enforcement officials should not hold me responsible if the above action does take place. It would be too obvious to blame me for M$ mistakes.

Whatever you have the gov't do, it will do it poorly and inefficiently. -- Ross Perot

This is not a direct quote but close to what Perot said Thursday night on CNN Larry King Live. He backs up Bush for the sole reason that he does not want Gore "I invented the wheel" to screw up the economy and send the military where we don't want them to go.

Perot is a business man and understands the economy better than any of us regular people. He just doesn't want Gore to fuck up what Greenspan and former-prez G. Bush did. Clington could NOT do anything to fuck up the economy becuase the Republican Congress kept him in place.

And I agree with Perot on that point... Gore is not a suitable president for US. And problems will pop up if the Houses have a Democratic majority and Gore is elected.

Now this doesn't mean I want Bush for President either. I think Perot thinks he could talk to his "Daddy" to sway his decisions.

I don't know who I am voting for.. maybe Browne or Donald Duck but it's not for the two party system!
